Anybody wanna help me get started?

Hey guys, Noob alert. I am actually not a newb to TDS or diesels, just WVO.

My uncle's truck is a '93 IDI with a turbo added and we want to mod it to run straight WVO.

Can anyone point me to any resources or anything to get started? I know the following basics.
*Start it on Diesel, switch at operating temp, purge WVO before shut down.

*Fuel needs to be filtered to 4 microns? Is that right?

*I don't want to buy a $1500 kit, I would like to make it myself.

When the kit gets going I plan to use it one my PSD as well, any precautions or anything about running it in either specific truck?

Thanks for bearing with me, hope to join the WVO ranks soon.

Thanks

Re: Anybody wanna help me get started?

I think this is a good recent thread.

http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbt...o=&fpart=1

Just read all the threads in this forum to get a good understanding of what is going on.

Also check

http://biodiesel.infopop.cc

I think the 94 and up is where you don't have problems with the existing fuel lines, I could be wrong.

Re: Anybody wanna help me get started?

I'm a member of the infopop site. It's unbelievably awsome! There's a whole tutorial section to get you started and then the forums to help you with questions and to share info and techniques.

There are other biodiesel and wvo sites out there but the infopop site is the best one I've found.

There have been many many testimonials from members that came from other forums to the infopop site. They all seems to say that they are glad they came.

Check it out. It's free (but donations are welcomed) and the people are great.

There are several ways to go about WVO in your trucks, do research here, You may get away with well under $1500 to get your IDI going, but I spent over that getting my PSD going without buying a kit, and did the www.vegistroke.com type setup IMO the best for our PSD's. Look into that for you PSD. The IDI you could do it rather inexpensively if bying the parts right. But they are 2 different engines and what you can get away with on the IDI you may not get away with on the PSD.

There are many ways to do your filtering also, check out all the forums dealing with WVO and get the best way that suits you. Points that you need to research is dewatering, and pre-filtering and final filtering, types of oil are important as well. Some oil that these resturants use are not good for our trucks. I have had some change from soy oil (good) to shorting (bad) Be careful. It also narrows your field of restruants that you can collect from, Not all oil is created equal.

Go to infopop like the above post, you may get some more good information from www.frybrid.com form, and we are getting more interest on the bio/WVO section on www.superdutydiesel.com

Hope for the best on your research.
