I tried biodiesel starting a couple of years ago. I liked it, but since I could only get it by driving 75 miles to Denver and hauling back B100 in 55-gal drums, I decided it was too much trouble. However, a B20 pump has opened here in Colorado Springs, and I've started to use it. It is still somewhat inconvenient since they only take driver cards, which means I have to apply for credit with them and not put it on my regular credit card. Also, the pump is about 5 miles out of the way of my usual driving routes. But it's mostly interstate to get there, so it doesn't take too long.
I hope more B20 pumps open up. I'd love to be able to drive a few blocks and get a B20 fill-up.
The price isn't too bad, about 20 cents over the prevailing market price for regular diesel. I normally add Stanadyne Performance Formula additive to regular diesel, and I don't need it with B20. I figure the Stanadyne costs about 7 cents a gallon, leaving a net difference of about 13 cents more for B20.
Since it is out of my way and a bit more expensive, I probably won't use it for every fill-up. But I'll try to use it when I can.
Yes, I know I should make my own with WVO. However, that is just not an option for me right now for several reasons, and I don't see it as an option anytime soon.
Making your own isnt a REQUIREMENT. And as the popularity of bio-d increase, I forsee the "make your own" mentality slowly dropping. Most likely from a lack of oil! If Bio-D really takes off, post consumer oil supplies may drop substantially to support a new "green power" fuel economy, instead of the curreny Arab Oil economy.
If you cant make it, your still doing your part by at least buying it.
Shoebear,
Just an idea - Citibank has a credit card that gives you %5 back on Fuel, food and at the pharmacy.
I live near Ann Arbor Michigan, which has a lot of liberal- thinking environmentalists, and there are two pumps in the area that supply B20 at the same price as the higher priced stations selling #1/#2 diesel.
It isn't much, but it nets about a $0.10 / gallon savings.

Where are those two stations located?
Thanks.

Hey Shoebear,
Tried Bio-diesel myself recently, and found the truck runs much better on it. I agree, the convenience of a pump helps, tho the one near me is B100, so I have to blend myself if I want B20. Lowest straight diesel here is 2.39, with B100 at 3.54, so .23 more a gallon to run B20.
