Bio Diesel

I just filled up my 02 then I saw on the pump it was B20. Is there any adverse effects from running 20% Bio in an 02? I was thinking about possible rubber lines and O ring deterioration.

Thanks

Nope, u can run b20 to b100 without adverse effects. It will clean your fuel delivery system so u might want to check your fuel filter after running a tank or two. It will also quiet your injectors while running Bio.

Depends on how cold the weather gets. In FL, no problem. In Alaska, I wouldn't. I don't like bio because the mileage drops. I see significant drop after B40 and don't doubt there is some drop at lower percentages. So unless it is cheaper than D2, I don't buy it if I had a choice. Some will tell you it smells like french fries but unless you are trying to "off yourself" with exhaust fumes and want a nice last breath, I fail to see the point. Some will say the engine sounds quieter. So what?

My B100 cost me $.75 per gallon and the mpg loss is not significant enough to bother me.
After doing the 10K mod if I keep my foot off the floor I have regained mpg and then some.

Is that what you sell it for? Is that what your time, investment, storage space, etc, etc, is worth?

The point is that when you sell it, you would consider your labor. That would add significantly to the $0.75. IOW, that is not an accurate figure.

The point is it's not for sale, it's for personal use. I ran a service call yesterday, over 600 miles round trip. Loaded @ 75 MPH I get about 10 mpg. 60 gallons of fuel @1.75 per gallon savings is $105 in MY pocket, not Exxon/Mobil or Ahab the Arab. I don't sell it to make money, I use it to make money. The fact that it is easier on the engine, more pleasant to be around and environmentally friendly are just extra benefits.

Norman
My opinion. If it differs from yours, live with it.

your time and effort has to be considered as hobby time... we sell the excess oil to the svo guys so it usually pays for ALL my chemical costs so my fuel is usually FREE.. when we dont sell the excess my cost (chemicals not time ) is .54/gal..

The point is, things are hard to compare when you do the old "Apples to Oranges" thing. When you don't consider your time, your space invested, etc, etc, it is going to be way cheaper. Obviously, your time is not worth a thing since you figured you saved $105 and it wasn't in the equation. This would be akin to saying that since my dad gives me gas for free and fixes the car for free, my operation costs is very low and therefore car X is a good car to own.

My opinion. If it differs from yours, live with it.

Hobby time is something I do at my convenience or if I feel like it. I don't have to fish every weekend unless I want to. I have to go collect the SVO and process it if I want to drive "free" and not pay road tax.

Sorry, I missed your post where you figured in the hourly rate and vehicle mileage that you tied up driving to the fuel stop. I know already you are going to tell me that it is right on the way somewhere, so you don't have any extra miles.

I guess I could have been home on the couch watching Wheel of Fortune instead of doing something productive.

I really do appreciate you trying to talk all these people out of making bio, it makes the WVO easier to obtain for those of us who want it. Sounds like motor oil is more your speed anyway, it's way easier, no investment and no chemicals to buy. Keep up the good work.

I don't know of too many people that go to the gas station to get gas or diesel and nothing else in that errand, do you? When I say that, I mean that I might be home after dinner and just have a bug up my butt to go fuel up. So yes, it is on the way home or on the way

Again, your life might be different but I constantly have things to do at home. Something is always broke or needs maintenance or heaven forbid, I decide to go riding my Jetskis, ATVs or go camping. So yes, I do have other things to do. I drive 70 mins to and from work every day and even if I didn't, my time is precious. OTOH, if it were just watching Wheel of Fortune or getting WVO, I suppose WVO would be a good option assuming the weather is cooperative.

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of making bio. I just don't care for the "used car salesman" thing where we extol all the virtues and gloss over all the drawbacks of the product. $0.75 a gallon is if you don't count taxes. That means that in some states, they might come after you or you have to submit reports if you want to be comparing yourself with commercial fuel, be it D2 or B100. OTOH, if you want to be a politician, I suppose you are on to a good start. Either way, I have had enough of slick guys promising the world for $10 a month, haven't you?

Commercial fuel companies are already buying up what they can get their hands on. So, enjoy it while you can but when China Wok gets $0.50 a gal they won't give it to you for free.

No, I don't think so. Fresh motor oil is too expensive and used motor oil has too many contaminants for me to feel good about it. Either case, when it gets cold, motor oil is going to be an issue. No thanx. D2 or whatever is available at the pump is fine for me. The more bio in the fuel, the cheaper it has to be for me since I lose mileage.
