Biocide needed?

Does B99 need biocide?

From the little that I have read it can grow bugs like diesel. Does anyone know if they are the same bugs that live in diesel?

I noticed that Racor biocide is just for diesel; doesn't mentioned bio-diesel. Any other product made for bio-diesel?

I don't have any problems yet but I am just wondering.

I had a 5 gallon plastic can of diesel setting around for over a year and it looked like it had a little black stuff in the bottom. I emptied the can and tried to clean the black with a little bio but the black didn't come up. So I put soappy water and bleach and let it set half a day and it cleaned up. From this I guess bio and diesel have the same bugs.

Re: Biocide needed?

The algae grows in the water phase of the fuel, so it may be the same as diesel or the stagnant pond in the vacant lot down the street. All bio does not need treated, but once the tank is "infected" it will not go away without biocide. Killem is highly recommended treatment. Killem

Re: Biocide needed?

I just bought some made by power service - I'll read what it says and post up.

Yup, I swear by this stuff. You can probably get it cheaper through their website. Click Manufacturer Representatives. They will let you know the closest retailer.

Re: Biocide needed?

Yeah Killem does just what they say it does. Be careful though, it's a deadly poison that can be absorbed through the skin.

I handle the stuff with chemical gloves on.

Re: Biocide needed?

A warning for ALL

If you are going to use a biocide, be sure to wear a FULL protection suit of some sort.. Goggles, FACEMASK, breathing filter and rubber apron/boots.

Biocide is VERY VERY HAZARDOUS stuff. It makes KOH/NaOH and Methanol look friendly by comparison. Please be careful.

Re: Biocide needed?

Thanks all,

Sounds like that stuff will work and it is labled for use with bio and diesel. In the picture it looked like I could just pour a little in like with other additives while I fill up. Would full protective gear be needed to add a little to my truck's tank while I fill up?

Is Racor in diesel safer or about the same?

How about Biobor?

Only if you are accident prone. You do need to use a syringe. 1 ML treats over 4 gallons of fuel.
