Biodiesel in a 6.4?

Anybody using biodiesel in their 6.4? Benefits/complaints? Better maintenance/clogged fuel filters or injectors?

If I remember correctly, the owners manual says it's safe for blends up to B20?

A local station here sells B5 at $3.99/gal; whereas the other stations are selling regular LSD for $4.20/gal.

Unless they have very recently changed, Ford's published stand on biodiesel is B-5 & severe duty cycle for oil & fuel filters. This is in line with what the injector manufacturers are publishing.

Having said that, ANY diesel engine should run just fine on biodiesel at any percentage, PROVIDED it is fresh & clean. Since biodiesel is bio degradable, it should be used within 6mos to a year of manufacture, and be stored where humidity can't add water to it. The biggest concern will be temperature, followed by water content. Bio will gel at a higher temp than #2 and any water in a high pressure injection system will flash into high pressure steam at the injector tips. NOT good.

Would run fine. Supopsidly need to change your oil more often. They say when it does the regen alot of bio gets past the piston and into the oil and because bio is such a good solvent it harms the engine oil.

This brings to my next point. If the bio creates way less PM shouldn't the DPF get clogged way less often requiring far fewer regens? And hence cancel out the ability of the engine to build up excess bio in the oil.
