Biodiesel and Aluminum Tankage

Found a 100 gallon aluminum tank for $20 bucks last night. What's the consensus about biodiesel and aluminum?

I would think that it would be safe, but I do not wish to run off my own intuition about reactivity between two materials.

Re: Biodiesel and Aluminum Tankage

There are several people one this site with aluminun tanks and all seem to be doing good. I'm going to pick a 95 gal. aluminum tank up tomorrow. But mine is $449.

That's why I make regular trips to scrap yards, you'd be surprised what companies will throw away.

Re: Biodiesel and Aluminum Tankage

HAH! Nearly had me going there.

No this tank is going to be for my finished biodiesel product.

Yeah I found the tank while dropping off a water heater I screwed up when trying to make a second processor. In my enormous strength, I stripped the threads off heating element port, actually shattered the bung itself.

I saw that tank as I was going into the grange supply store and thought that it'd be a good idea to grab it.

Re: Biodiesel and Aluminum Tankage

Over accross the water from you Spenz. out of Gorst by the Kitsap airport there is a slavage yard that had two 125 gallon square stainless steel boat fuel tanks, they are the heigth of a pick up bed. and about 40 x26 inch. i bought one for $40.00 the other was still avaliable last weekend. These tanks are baffled and have fuel guage senders.

Re: Biodiesel and Aluminum Tankage

Well I got the tank, I think this thing is bigger than 100 gallons.

Ok it's 29" in diameter by 55" long, which works out to about 160 gallons.

That'd be about 3 months of fuel for me with regular driving.
