Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

Auto manufacturers do NOT warranty damage caused by fuel. Ford and the other diesel engine users have posted that they will officially OK a blend of up to 5% bio diesel. However, the engine will run on 100% bio-D. BUT, if you have probs, and Ford blames it on the fuel, your out of luck, you'll have to go after the fuel manufacturer for repairs. Ford is just trying to cover their butts, and still give the semi-OK to run bio-D.

This is nothing new really. If Texaco sold you gasoline that was 50% water and it hydrolocked your small gas engine, you would go after Texaco, not Ford for the repairs.

So long as the bio-D meets ASTM standards, you can run 100%.

Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

I just read on the dieselmann's page that ford will allow bio-diesel up to 5%. And I have found a place here that sells it for 2.15 a gallon.

So I guess time to try it out, and see how it goes. I will get a reciept stating the 5% blend of bio-diesel just to cover my a$$.

BTW: Have you tried biodiesel, and what were the results

Thanks

Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

The effects of bio-D increase with the percentage. B-20 is usually the preffered mix, but there is nothing wrong with b-5.

Advantages is that bio-d is a fuel system cleaner. If you have any junk in your tank or line, the bio-d will flush it to your fuel filter. So if you plug a filter, thats why. Problem goes away once your system is completely cleaned.

Im not running Bio-D as I cant find it in quantity here in New Orleans, so Im in process of making my own.

In the mean time, I just pour a gallon of new virgin oil in the tank whenever I fill up. That gives me about a 3% mix of oil to fuel with a 29 gallon tank.

Where are you buying your new virgin oil? Cost per gallon?

Thanks, KC

Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

Forgotten, what happens to coke buildup on injector tips? Has anyone heard if biodiesel will clean the coke from injector tips?

Koolcat, I burned my first half gallon brew of biod in my 04 6.0, adding it to about 3 or 4 gallons? 1/8 tank of dino diesel remaining in the tank.(That is somewhere near B15) It quietened down a good bit and had no problems! When I filled up with dino, it got loud again...

PS So far, I have approached 3 mom/pop restaurants about their oil and all have said I could have all I want! A fourth one gave me 5 gal for our test batches and probably would give me all I want but I didn't ask yet.

Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

I found a place here in FL, that will provide the blended B5 that ford suggests we put in these things. Its about 2.15 a gallon, I am looking to try it and see how much better my mileage gets. On the highway this thing is awesome but in city traffic (stop and go) it sucks... especially during rush hour.

Koolcat, I wouldn't look for better fuel mileage as Biodiesel has a little less MPG than dino.

I only do it when I find cheap oil at the grocery store, nothing fancy, not every tank.

Re: biodiesel blend for 6L???

I'm doing the same thing. Veg oil is significantly less expensive than Lucas Fuel Treatment and I think I'm getting simular results, the injectors are certainly quieter. Currently adding a quart or half gallon per tank of diesel.

I've found that when running B20 winter blend, my mileage is about a 1/2mpg less than winter blend dino, but when running the B20 summer blend, I'm up 1 to 1.5 mpg over summer blend dino. And that's with using my new Diesel Turbo Lifesaver, so my truck is idling a lot more this summer than it did last summer.

Some of that may be due to the local producer's updated Bio formula that they've been claiming will increase mpg. I figured "yeah, whatever ", but so far my mpg is up 1 to 1.5 mpg over what I was getting last summer and recently on regular diesel.
