Biodiesel from Chicken Fat

Any body see the article in this months Successful Farming magazine about making diesel from chicken fat? Univ of Arkansas has come up with a way to take chicken fat and turn it into glycerin and diesel. I tried finding the link online, but can't find it.

Re: Biodiesel from Chicken Fat

I had always assumed that the commercially available B20 in my town came from a combo of virgin non food grade and recaptured restruant oils. I found out at a recent meeting that I sat in on of the ETCFC.org that most of the Biodiesel component of the B20 in this area is from chicken fat. No, it does not smell like fried chicken. I wish it did.

I thought this was pretty new? If it is "tried and true" then I am more comfortable with it. Anyone have an article on exactly how/where they get the fat from the chicken? Is it a bi-product of the slaughtering process or the butchering proces?

Re: Biodiesel from Chicken Fat

They probably just render it from scraps like they use to do with hogs and beef back in the good old days when french fries tasted good.

Re: Biodiesel from Chicken Fat

Most of the fat comes from rendering the chicken guts for animal feed. I have see bio made from beef tallow and it was a little bit cloudy at room temp. It would work blended down though. Kurt
