I have a 97 f-250 H.D. crew cab 4x4 that I have started running Bio in, I am running an 80 20 blend. The blend is suppose to be virgin soybean oil. My mpg has increased by 2-3 mpg. I believe my truck is a little peppier. I started running this due to the ultra low sulfur. Have I made an error in judgment? More oil in system is a good thing, right? A lot of the logging trucks in my area are running this stuff. I do not know if any are having issues. What do you guys think?

The only issue besides it cleaning out your fuel system and the need for filter changes is that running B100 or very high blends will melt your two return lines from each head to the FPR. Mine turned to a black sticky goo. Here's a photo of my replaced hoses.

Just want you to be aware of our problem so you have heads up here! Ford delaminating fuel tanks. This has quickly ended our trial of blended wvo, kero, rug, & DSE. We are not giving up but after about one week of running on the blend, we are stranded. Done alot of research and we have dropped the tank, cleaned the fuel filter, tested the fuel pump. Cleaned the screen on the pickup tube. From observing the inside of the tank, there is no doubt left. Alot of this silvery grey flakey stuff is coming off the inside of the tank by the bunches.
WE cleaned out the tank as good as possible but after running truck for another 2 hours at idle, its SOL again. We are still trying to figure out what we are going to do next. Meantime this vehicle is down. When we do get it going again (It won't even start) we are not going to go without a pre-filter between the tank and fuel pump. We have to buy a new tank. We are pretty sure that the problem started prior to using the blended fuel, however the blended fuel (acid in the vegi oil) just accelerated the process of the tank delaminating. Really hope you don't have this problem, but you need to be aware of the possibility. We have not put any blended fuel in our 96 F250 PSD yet. Just have our 2000 E350 PSD in ICU. If you want more info, send me an a private message with an email and I'll give you all the info I have found.

Chamberjac,
First off, I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems. But from reading your post it is not related to Biodiesel. I am not even sure it is related to the blending that you trying. I have been making and using biodiesel in my 02 F250 for about a year now with zero problems. Properly made biodiesel is not acidic, it has a neutral ph level.
I have never run bio in my 6.0's. I just don't know of anybody that does. I run it in my cummins with no issues. Is it ok to run bio in a 6.0L? If so what percentage is safe? I know that I will have to change fuel filters more often. Any other issues?

Yes its safe. My truck runs quieter & smoother with BD. Use as high a % as the temperatures in your area will allow (or your pocket book). Just make sure the fuel is clean and fresh.
I do not advocate blending in any modern diesel with a high pressure injection system.

You say you're running bio, but then you say it's an 80/20 blend using virgin soy oil. Are you running bio, 80/20 svo or ? I'm confused.

How long have you been running bio in your 6.0 rig? On the central coast in California it very rarely gets below 35degrees in the winter and it is between 55-105 in summer. The local station sells b99. Is this a good choice?
I run 100% in both my 7.3's, my neighbor runs it in his 6.0 Ford and new 3.0 Jeep. No problems!

Did you use regular fule line for the replacements?
We run B100 on all of our trucks, including the 6L. Not a single problem as of yet. Actually, only one problem on my 92. It got into the 20's in the middle of winter down here and I got caught with peanut based B100 in my tank and it congealed a bit. A blow dryer and about 30 minutes later and I was up and running again.
