Re: Biodiesel question
The answer is a yes and a maybe:
Yes in that a 'newer' diesel can run biodiesel. In fact any diesel can run biodiesel.
The maybe comes in two parts:
1. The 6.0 uses a very high pressure common rail (HPCR) injection system that can be sensitive to fuel quality. If you are going to make homebrew you must make sure that it is filtered to 5 microns and washed of any excess glycerin. Unwashed fuel can create deposits on injectors of diesel engines affecting idle quality and fuel delivery. There was a thread a while back called 'bio and the romps' in which we discussed what was causing rough idling in the 6.0 and biodiesel.
2. If your truck is brand new (which I see from your post), Ford will only allow 5% biodiesel (aka B5) to be used under warranty. They will warranty the engine but not a fuel. So if you were to say, run B10 and the engine dies because of it, Ford will not cover it under warranty.
If I were you, and you really would like to start using biodiesel, I would purchase it from a commercial supplier who is current with the ASTM standard for biodiesel until you know how to really make a good consistent batch of biodiesel.
Where are you located? If you're in the Puget Sound area, I can help you out.
Hope this can either clear this up or point you in the right direction for more research. A new truck is a big investment, wouldnt want to see you ruin a new truck
