Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

Hi All,
Anyone running a blend of filtered vegoil in a 6.0? I have collected over 250 gallons in the last four months of some really good oil, and I'm thinking of running a blend in our 2003 (new to us) Excursion.
I will be filtering and dewatering it really well. This oil never even tried to gel over the winter, samples in the freezer won't gel either, just thicken slightly.
We're looking at some trips pulling the boat, and maybe lots of trips to the coast (125 miles ea. way) if we setup our RV.

When temps get above 50° consistently, I want to run a 70/30 blend. Maybe more during the dead heat of summer, but I won't get crazy with it.

Issues? Concerns? Am I crazy?

Opinions please, be frank, or should I use a kit like B&E and flyingisbest?

Re: Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

I'm not a big fan of blending. But, do this simple test. Add 70/30 to a glass jar and shake the heck out of it. See if it stays together. See if it separates. I've never done this test but I've read a few posts that say it's not an issue and a few posts that say WVO and #2 don't. Take a look at this link Blend issue

In reality I do blend in that when I switch over what ever is in the system when I switch goes to the opposite tank. So I end up with a blend. Pretty small amount I guess.

I think the main concern I'd have is the fuel pump seeing thicker then normal fluid.

I think the heat the heads add to the fuel as it makes its way to the injectors would be to your advantage.

Personally I would not use oil in any of the newer diesels. I think the injector pressures are just too high, and you'll have problems with them tearing up.

I don't like oil for another reason as well, but just the viscosity question is enough to keep me from doing it.

I do run about B-30 in my rig, and the only thing keeping me from higher is the cost of the bio (b-99). Currently its at $3.25/g

The school bus company here blends at about a 30 percent oil. They ran it all winter without problems.

Are you talking used motor oil or Waste Veggie Oil? Is the school bus using a high pressure common rail or huei injection system?

Neither a oil is environmentally a good idea to burn in an engine. Wast oil heater, yeah, engine - no.

Looks like I'll be looking into biodiesel production then, really don't want to risk anything on this vehicle.

Re: Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

I played with mixtures last August in Dallas with my 6.0. First it was about a 60%, then 50% but still noticed incomplete combustion, I found 20% ok.

However I don't think I'll mess with the blending anymore.

Re: Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

The school busses have an International motor, I didn't ask if common rail or not. Don't really care. They have written permission from the manufacturer to use WVO. I forget what percentage they are limited to, I think it was 30 percent. They do get new v.o. from the school system that has an overdue expiration date. They filter the oil down to 25 microns and then blend it with diesel. They have been doing this for about a year.

Re: Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

Are the school buses 6.0's?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I plain don't know.

Re: Blends of 70/30 in 6.0 PSD

I should have mentioned that. They are not 6.0, they are 7.3.
