Chemicals, where to buy

New to BIO...
Just secured a source for used peanut oil.
Bought a parts kit, and a Hot water heater.
Living in the Dallas area, and don't have a clue where to get the Methanol and Sodium Hydroxide.

Anyone form around 75069, know where I might be able to find the materials needed?

Thanks for you asistance.

To all the folks who take the ime to share your knowledge and experience, Thanks, us rookies need all the help we can get.

Jay

Re: Chemicals, where to buy

Buckley Oil sells methanol. You can contact them here.

I get my KOH here.

The owner, Robert, is a great guy. He was selling a 50# bag for $45. The last time I went by there, he even had some empty barrels he let me have.

Re: Chemicals, where to buy

Thanks for the data...

Buckley is selling methanol @ 2.67/gal

Best price I found in Dallas.

This will put my cost @ 0.66/gal of Bio (Screw the Arab Nations)

I am waiting on some parts, but I should be brewing my first batch in 2 weeks.

Thanks again....

Jay

Re: Chemicals, where to buy

Univar can be a pain and many have reported that once they mentioned making Biodiesel, Univar refused to sel lto them. Also they are kinda picky on selling to a business and not an individual. Hopefully your bracch is not that way! And they WILL NOT let you load it in your car (passenger compartment)!
Best of luck Jay and yell if you need anything!

Yep that's how Univar is.

AND THAT'S WHY:

Making Biodiesel? We all need our chemicals (coming from Univar) for tanning animal skins!

Business address? ANY business address will work! Talk to a buddy or somebody you know having a bzness to get it delivered to!

That's what they want to hear for their records, so give it to them.

Re: Chemicals, where to buy

I also found that the "Plumbers" angle works as well. After all it is drain opener (or atleast one of the common uses). So if you know a Plumber, your covered.

Re: Chemicals, where to buy

Yea... I called Univar, even with my company name, they were unwilling to sell to me.

But..

Buckley's asked where you racing? I responded I'm not racing, so he then said, "making Biodiesel then?"

I said yes, and he only cautioned me about that local ordiances may not allow for drum storage within city limits, then loaded it in my truck. Nice people, I will continue to give them my business.

Thanks for all your responses.
Jay
