Converted to B20, what to watch for on 2k trip to Chicago and back?

Just loaded both tanks with B20 for the first time. I've got a couple questions:

I have one spare fuel filter for the trip. Should be ok?

Where are Bio stations on I-80 for the trip?

I'll be OK once in IL since there is a member from Grayslake (area I'm going to) that uses B20. Just need to find what station their using.

Thanks,

Mike

You should be fine. I've driven about 700 miles using B100 and I haven't had to change my filter yet, and I haven't noticed any power issues due to a clogged filter. The truck had 153k when I started so there must be residue in the system from that much #2...drive safe

Ditto on that. It took about 8-10 tanks of biodiesel for it to plug up the filter on my 6.9 and it had been on there for a long time.

You should be ok, just have the filter as a back up.

Re: Converted to B20, what to watch for on 2k trip to Chicago and back?

I'm the guy from Grayslake, and sorry to say I'm having to drag my B100 in from Wauconda in a 55 gallon drum! The only fueling station in the area where you can just pump it into your truck is in Bensenville, due west of O'Hare (Road Ready unattended fueling station.)

... but this is the beauty of running biodiesel. Despite the word "converting" in your title, you don't have to do anything to start running it. And you don't have to do anything to switch back, if you can't find it. Just run normal diesel when on your trip, and start using B20 again when you get home.

You should carry a fuel filter and whatever tools you need to change it, but I haven't had any filter clogging problems running up to 70% in a '97 PSD and lots and lots of B100 in an '82 M-B 300SD. It isn't a certainty that you'll loosen sludge and clog filters; there may not be much sludge, depending on your vehicle and its history.

Re: Converted to B20, what to watch for on 2k trip to Chicago and back?

Yes, check for fueling sites online via the link given above. I know there's a place near downtown Omaha, NE that sells Biodiesel. I also know that there's a place along I-80 about 45 miles east of Omaha... I think it was a Phillips-66 station that had a Biodiesel pump. I keep kicking myself for not writing down the mile marker. Sorry for being so vague.

FYI, I fuel at the Road Ready station in Bensenville. I just topped off my tanks for $2.85/gallon of B20. I guess I must be hooked cause i drove right on by the Citgo up the street that was selling diesel for $2.65/gallon.
