Cutting WMO with gasoline for winter?

Has anybody tried this? I have heard mention of some guys doing it with vegetable oil, but none for WMO yet.

If anyone has tried it, what kind of percentages did you run?

Are you using 100% wmo? I would think at least 40% diesel and 10% kerosene would be a much better way to thin the WMO. I currently am at 50/50 WMO/diesel 300 to 400 miles south of your local. If the temps start to stay below 40 degrees for several days then My plan is to drop to 30% WMO as there is a difference in how the truck runs when that cold.

I was up to running 66% WMO (remainder diesel) in the summer, but I backed it down to 50/50 for the colder weather. I just figured if I had to go much lighter than that on the oil, it's not really worth the hassle to bring diesel home in cans and add it to my mixing/filtering rig. The gasoline would thin the oil much more efficiently, and probably make it burn a bit hotter which would be nice in the cold weather. I just wondered if anyone had done it before. I'm not sure I want to be the experimenter.

I mentioned this to a guy who works with me who drives a 78 Mercedes diesel. I have not read the owners manual for that car but he said Mercedes does recomend using gasoline in cold weather. Once we are back to work I will get the owners manual from him and post that info.

I am at 25% oil now in florida. When I have stale gas I just put it in. I have never put more then 1 gallon in when doing 50/50 though. it helps thin it quite well.

I just use more diesel. 50/50 gets me started in the morning, even at about 10 degrees, but it does take a couple tries.

I thought adding gas (RUG) was a big no-no anyhow.

1978 mercedes diesel owners manual.
-
At very low temps the fluidity of #2 diesel may become insufficient due to parafin seperation. If winter diesel is used, there will hardly be any malfunctions at outside temps reaching as low as +3 F(-16C).
-
Varying with the temp, add a certain quanity of kerosene,if only #2 summer diesel fuels or less cold resistant winter diesel fuels are available or if temps drop below +3 F(-16 C)
-
If regular gasoline does have to be added, its proportion should not exceed 30%. Premium fuels are not to be used.
-
Even at ambient temps of less than-8F(-22C) the proportion of supplementary fuel (kerosene) must not exceed 50%.
-
The adding of supplementary fuel to #1 diesel is not recommended even at low ambient temps.

Reference Table------- #2 summer diesel ---------------supplementary fuel
__________________________________________________ _kerosene

+32 to +14 F ----------------50%---------------------------30%

+14 to +5 F -----------------50% --------------------------50%

I run50% WMO in the winter & if the temps drop below 30 I'll add 1 gal RUG per tank to stop gelling works fine down to -15*.
