Damn cold weather

Well, I believe my fuel gelled up pretty good the past two days. I didn't run my truck while it was in the 30s and 40s here but today it's about 70 or something and i tried to crank my truck over. It ran for a few seconds then just died. Ugh... guess i'll have to change the fuel filter and hope for the best. Also, will be putting in a few gallons of diesel.

Re: Damn cold weather

You and I can't complain about this cold weather. We put up with it what, less than a week a year of temps below 60*? Just think of the people to the north of us and what they put up with.

Re: Damn cold weather

Eric, Pour in a few gallons of VERY HOT biodiesel to your tank to melt the wax crystals at the bottom. If you had gelling then one day at 70*F won't melt the iceberg. I believe you'll be changing filters frequently until it melts.

Re: Damn cold weather

Well.. I guess I got lucky, it seems the gelling was only localized in the filter or so it seems. I got a blow dryer and shot the filter for a good 20-30 minutes, then shot the injection pump for a while and the injector lines and all that then blew hot air into the intake for a bit while I had my brothers car hooked up to my batteries with jumper cables. A few start attempts with the heat back and forth from the fuel filter to the intake and it finally fired back off and kept running. At that point I drove it to the nearest fuel station and filled it with diesel. I had about 16 gallons still in there of about B50 I'd say.

So I guess I got lucky, but next time cold weather comes I do believe i'll be filling up with diesel the day before. Funny thing is my dad had more of this peanut biodiesel in it than my truck did and his was fine.

Re: Damn cold weather

Yeah, you Floridians have it easy 360 days a year...the other five or six days is your reality check.
