from diesel to bio

How hard is it to take your truck to bio and then back again? I heard it was just the filter change but was not sure

Re: from diesel to bio

Real biodiesel is completly & totally interchangable w/ petroleum diesel in your 2001 vehicle. You do not need to do any thing, and they may be mixed in any percentage. If you're running B-20, it may be quite awhile before you need to change your fuel filter. If you start out using B-100, you'll need that filter sooner, rather than later.

The thing about bio as we head into winter is that is clouds at about 40 & gels about 30. A good blend for me where it rarely gets below 30 is B-50 (half bio half #2). If it gets colder in your area, use B-20 w/#1.

Now, Waste or Straight Veggie oil is NOT biodiesel, and can need some modifications.

Re: from diesel to bio

It's a matter of running your tank empty and filling it up with diesel fuel. For simplicity it's no different running Biodiesel then it is running Petro Diesel.

Re: from diesel to bio

Biodiesel is just that: Biodiesel. If you buy it from a vendor (biodiesel station) they will sell some mixture of biodiesel and regular diesel. Our local station only carries B20...20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent regular diesel.
If you make your own, you can mix anyway you want to. In the summer I run only biodiesel so I'm at B100. I've now started to add some regular diesel and am currently running about 75% biodiesel. As it gets colder I'll probably use half and half. So the Bxx number depends on the amount of biod mixed with dino diesel. Does this help any?

Re: from diesel to bio

I use biodiesel and petrodiesel interchangebly. With the colder months upon us here in the Northwest, I've been blending some B80 for better cold weather starts and using B100 during spring and summer.

I also have put about 10% diesel into my storage tank so I can add some antigel to the fuel. Antigels will not work with biodiesel unless you add it with some diesel fuel.

Since I'm making biodiesel myself for about 98 cents a gallon, I can afford to buy some petrodiesel now and then.
