vegi h ... my wifes x is green and tan... i ve already looked at DFA's underbody tanks theyre nice but pricey... thats why i wanted to know about the 250 tank..i can get those all day at the junk yard cheap
I would start by findind a 99-03 shortbed extended cab F-250 as these have the same wheelbase as a excursion. Then see if anything close to the tank would be affected by 140-170F heat.It would have to be a plastic tank,as oil heated repeatly in a steel tank will cause polymerization of the oil (turns it to a plastic type grit which is no good for your truck). If you don't mind sacrificing cargo area,a plastic marine tank can be bought and modified for around $100-$150,depending on size(i would get a 15-25 gallon flat transluesent model as you can see fuel level easily thru tank........good luck .
veg h , i dont need to heat the tank... im in north florida and i can get away with running b100 in the spring summer and early fall. in the winter its anywhere between 50/50 and 75% bio... because of my job we dont take many trips during the cold season...also, i like to run some #2 through it every now and then....
I chose the DFA vegistroke over making biodiesel b/c it's easier to source/filter waste veg oil on long trips than biodiesel. Also, I didn't feel like turning my garage into a chemistry experiment. WVO is not that hard to source and filter once you put enough effort into it.
I just did a 4200 mile trip on only 15 gallons of diesel. I've been running the V3 for a short time, but can't say enough positive about the product and the company. I bought my Ex when diesel was $5/gal specifically to run on WVO. Go for it, you won't regret it. Also, they have a very active and helpful forum, so you don't need to reinvent the wheel to make WVO a reality.
drford, i have no experience using wvo (a lot of the guys i sell my excess oil to use it in their wvo systems and love it) im making bio and so far love it... as muns said its easier to find oil on the road than bring your own bio with you... im facing that dilemma right now.. im looking at a used 50 gal tank to put in the rear , on top of the bumper carrier that ill be loadind up with bio...ive got a 3000 mile trip coming up and i need 170 gals and so far im only 10 gal short...
i have read some questions about mixing veggie oil with diesel in your stock tank. Any problems mixing veggie with diesel in your Aux. (heated secondary) tank? I have done this a few times on some longer trips when i run out of veggie oil and can find cheap diesel. It makes for fewer stops and seems to clean out the filter on my V3 system for longer filter life. Any thoughts???

I add diesel to my v3 tank every 1500 miles,5-9 gallons, which does clean out the system. It also is asafe "oil stabilizer"................alot of talk of this on the DFA forum, bye the way over there i am "greasyX"............
Mixing WVO in your stock tank is asking for new injectors. WVO needs to be hot before hitting your injectors because the viscosity of oil is the concern. With a two tank system, your engine is allowed to warm up before switching over. Biodiesel is a different story, since the process of making it, changes the viscosity to that similar to diesel. I ran homebrew bio for a year before I decided it was not worth my time, effort, space, and headaches to convert it, which is when I went to SVO. I loved my Vegistroke system, but unfortuantely I went back to a Dodge, and now my system is for sale. (I got one of those bad 6.0L trucks) I will be converting my cummins as soon as I sell my V2.
BTW, I have a V2 system for sale. Will take 1,000.00 for it if interested.
