Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

That is why I put a vacuum gauge on it so you know when the filter needs to be changed or the electric booster pump has gone south,or you have switched over from diesel too soon before your system is hot enough! I believe this is why I have had no trouble with the stock mechanical pump.

Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

The Vacume gauge seems to be key. I've read many post on converting my 97 E350 PS Diesel. alot of conflicts and different ways to do it.

I'm not a Mechanic, but I converted my girls TDI with a friend. The TDI was easy compared to the challenges on the PS E350.

1. So, when removing the fuel pressure REG from the input side (Stock Fuel Fiter Location) of the fuel lines and adding the REG on the return side of fuel line seems like that would change something????

2. when I buy a fuel pressure regulator do I send the return line from the engine into inlet side of the regulator and the outlet side and the return outlet back to the tank?

3. why send the WVO back to the tank? couldn't I send the return line of wvo back to the supply line post filter to reduce the draw on the filter?

4. can you run hose clamps and rubber tubing @ 70 psi?

Thanks for the Help here in OREGON!

Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

Yes the vacuum gauge is the most important part of it because it will save your mechanical pump. Its been a long time ago and I don't know where my old filter is, but if you look at it I think the return lines out of the front of the heads went to the fuel pressure regulator on the filter.Yes you can use hose and clamps,That is what I used. This is just the way I plumbed my system running the return line back to the tank to help heat it.I would think there are many way of doing it!

Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

Abby,
I'm still in the process of converting my Ford 97 E350 PS diesel van!

Q #1.
You mentioned that you took your stock filter and pressure Reg out. I'm wondering how to deal with the wiring that once connected to the filter and regulator? Are those wires important?

Q #2
Fuel PUMP plumbing? How did you re-plumb the lines that once came from the low pressure out into the stock filter and then from the bottom of the filter into the bottom of the fuel pump? Did you just loop it?

Thanks
Jeff

Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

I have a '97 PSD and I have a vacuum/pressure gauge that came with the kit I purchased from GoldenFuelSystems.com

I am wondering if you look at the gauge only when it is at idle or all the time.
My gauge reads 12 psi of pressure at idle which is what I was told was great.
The pump I have is rated to kick out between 5-15psi. It is just a small little fuel pump right after my Racor filter. Check out pics.

However, when running down the road lately I have seen the gauge drop to -10, thats 10 psi of vacuum.
However I am running 80 mph and pushing down on the throttle.

I just did the FPR shim on my '97. I would have thought that would have given me more psi

Also, I just changed my filters, stock and Racor 2 micron filter.

Another question, Do I need a higher psi pump for my stock fuel pump. Mine is a mech. lift pump. Whenever I switch over it has a psi of plus 10 at least.

Thanks,
Fletch

Re: ?diy svo powerstroke conversion?

Flea when I switch over to wvo it my pull about 10, that is because the oil is a little cool But it will go to o quickly if it does not I'm looking to change the filter. After the warm up I never draw a vacuum again all day. In the winter it will draw about 20 for about 20 miles if it goes more than that I switch back to diesel for a few more miles. This is why you need the vacuum gauge to keep you off the side of the road!
