DSE results

Hey everyone. I have some findings that may help or start some more discussions.
First, let me tell you that I only buy cheap (500-1500)1988-1994 non turbo 7.3`s in F-350`s or 250`s to use for a summer truck on an island off of Rhode Island called Block Island. Usually 4 months and then I use in Connecticut in the fall till its really cold and then in the spring etc...I will use the trucks in the dead of winter on straight diesel if I have to ...
This is the easiest trucks to work on and I don`t use to do huge jobs. The DSE method is the easiest and I am going to try the naptha/xylene mix when the DSE mix runs out...I do start and stop on Reg Diesel.
Ok , I took off the injectors on the 88 after 7 months of use and some were dirty and had coking (I think thats what its called)by the tips and there were a few that were really bad.The one that comes to mind the most was if you look at the motor from the front, the injector to the back right(4th) had nasty black goo and what looked like water beadlets(???)
I did the cleaning job because I had all my tools out working on another 88 I just bought cheap and wanted to see what the injectors looked like.So , I wonder what the inside of the motor looks like.
I know the 92 that I sold to a friend was still running great after 4 years of him and mostly me running DSE and diesel blends, but never looked at the injectors because it ran so well.
So yes , these motors can take a beating w/ this blend, but as most would say, don`t know if I would mess w/ an expensive truck....just my observations, I have nothing to gain by passing this on.

Agreed. When you can put the entire fuel system on an IDI for $600, it only takes 4 fillups of your alternative fuel to pay for the new parts, anything more you get is raw savings.

$1600 for a set of PSD injectors sure changes the rate of return...

Maybe it wasn`t the Blend

Ok, I just purchased a 91 F-250 cream puff that was meticulisly maintained and had new injectors at 143k miles. It now has 181k.The same injector (4th one on the back right of the engine) had all the same goo as the 88 f-250 I just worked on.I`m guessing that these guys put diesel or home heating oil(was form an oil company)in it and looks like they always added fuel additives. So we will see how the fuel works on this truck.
This is 38,000 miles and 6 years later too , so the 7 months that I`ve been running in the 88 and the same goo results means that I better filter better or this DSE method(or blending)will eventually mean I will have to clean injectors more often.Rob
