A few times I have come VERY close to running out of fuel in remote areas. IF you are in distress without a diesel fuel stop is it possible to run an unmodified truck without damage on a few gallons of veggie oil?

I'll give you a real clear maybe.
It would depend on the temp if its hot say 90F sure a few gallons proabbaly would not hurt anything. After all they say a diesel will burn anything but for how long is the question.
This depends on the vehicle also. I like the PSDs setup with the fuel lines running through heads. It makes for a nice hot area for the fuel to get up to temp, veggie or diesel.
Hitting the local conviniance store for a few bottles of veggie when you run out of fuel may just be the ticket. Who needs AAA.

I will second B_E. I diesel will burn nearly anything you can get in the cylinder for a short time. A few gallons of virgin oil from a super market will likely hurt nothing but the wallet.
The problems you would face would be injector coking and I think HPOP damage from running a "fuel" that is too viscous. Veg oil should be 160 deg. before running through the system. I don't think a gallon or two would do you in, but who can say for sure?

If you are in a remote area, what are you doing carrying a few extra gallons of veggie oil? Why not just carry a few gallons of diesel?

I think that he is planning on using a couple of gallons of spare veggie oil AFTER his couple of spare gallons of diesel fuel are gone.

I agree with the above posts...I did some "testing" using strainght filtered underheated crankcase oil in a Lister clone. Back when I only half understood what the parameters are. Engine ran ok but was super hard to start if left cold, but I typically switched over from diesel to oil after warm. Got lots of coking, and worse, blowby that would raise the oil level in a few hours of run time that would overflow the crank case. A disassembly showed the cylinders were fine, but the heead gout seriously coked up, the valves needed scraped, the injectors fouled and coked. All no problem on a Lister, and the parts are cheap so it was a great experiment. Didn't have to replace anything though, the engines are tough. I will never run crankcase oil again in an engine though, but when I get it set up again (down for cooling and generator mods) I sure will run lots of heated veggie through it Just food for thought. Long term use will certainly cause coking problems but a few times here or there shouldn't be an issue. I am finding i have to watch, cause it's tempting to switch over to veggie in my truck before the engine is quite warm, since I run so many short trips, but removing injectors to clean them would be a big job, so I'll wait till warm, even though it kills me!
