anyone done it? I am thinking of trying it with a worhtlss chain saw. Any recomendations on mixture quantities? I figure I will start out heavy on the biodiesel that way I dont ruin any internal parts with friction.

It won't work. You need high compression for the biodiesel to ignite. Need a sparkplug for the alcohol to ignite and a glow plug for the biodiesel. How are you going to coordinate the two events ?Your arm is going to fall off just cranking the combination.

2 strokes you mix the gasoline and the oil. the gas/oil lubricates the internals of the engine since there is no 'oil stroke'. In this case gasoline = ethonal, biodiesel = oil.
With biodiesels extraordinary lubrication properties I am thinking that it may be good enough to lube a 2-stroke.
I am not worried about or trying to ignite the biodiesel through compression, that would never happen in a low compression motor.
What i am worried about is having enough lubrication while still being able to ignite the ethonal.

Why not just run svo? Unless you have biodiesel around. I know you can run a 2 stroke 0n ethanol. You just need to richen your mixture up. I would just run a rich mixture of fuel to oil. Like 24 to 1 like when you use to use 30 wt motor oil as 2 stroke oil.
I misunderstood the original post. I thought he wanted to burn biodiesel instead of gas. Sorta like having a diesel chain saw.

well alright then, I am going to go for it. We have an e-85 pump and I just signed up for the biodiesel coop. I will keep you updated on how it works out.
firstrattler, I thought you misunderstood, but i thought i would explain anyways

Go for it. Keep records. My friend in college wanted to put a HODAKA motorcycle transmission on a chain saw. Now that I think about it, having a five speed chainsaw would be cool

Just keep an eye on bearings and piston ring wear.

I heard about using biodiesel in place of two cycle oil back in December and did some checking over the internet. Most people say that it doesn't work too good. I was interested in because I run a lawn care service and thought it would be a good way to lessen pollution. I think going to one of the soy based two cycle oils is the way that I will go. You can find info on those here.
As far as using E85, it might be hard on the plastic and rubber parts. I think E10 is probably safe for most things, maybe not really old equipment, but E85 may be pushing it.
If you want to "go green" with your chainsaw just get you some castor oil. It's hands down the best oil for a 2 stroke. Any ammount of diesel, biodiesel or WVO in the gas is going to suppress combustion and give you a lot of smoke.
