Will a bigger tank fit under the X? I would like to be able to hold more VO than Diesel. My X has a 44 gallon fuel tank, not sure if that's standard or not.

yeah, 44gal is standard for the X, my WVO tank is seperate, and only holds ~30. My guy squeezed all the space he could safely out of the underside of the truck. I suppose if you have a large lift, and didn't mind the extra hanging out from underneath, you could go bigger.

He does sell stuff - but he pulls no punches and refuses to pass on bad info. ALL of the VO world 'secrets' are there and links to research papers, etc - LOTS of good info to read and very knowlegable (and up to date - this is evolving rapidly) forum members.

great write-up greasy Exc! I was in the same boat, looking at the GFS kit due to the tank/dual port looking like some nice options, but after more research I've stayed away from it.
Can you PM or email me (dlyons@alumni.rose-hulman.edu) some details on the tank? (contact for the builder, price, etc)

thanks

Oh, mileage is the same as diesel. Well, it would be - but since my right foot is no longer connected to my wallet, its prolly a bit less.

i hear that! The local news put a story on last night about "Thieves" stealing oil from resturant DUMPSTERS. A few years ago, this was considered trash, now that gas prices are through the roof its Valuable trash. I have seen locked dumpsters (and yes i will always call them dumpsters) more and more lately. Geeze... anything to make a buck these days huh? It just really pissed me off that we are now "thieves in the night" and before we were kookey recyclers.

Would it have been possible for you to use your stock 44 gal tank as the wvo tank and your custom tank as the diesel? I'm currently looking into the conversion kits for my excursion. Why did you choose vegistrok as apposed to golden fuel. I know you said people had to remove them, do you know why?

I had read something about a lack of a fuel return system making it clog up. I personally have been looking into the frycell stuff it looks really solid. And the theory seems very sound in keeping the oil up to 160ish the entire trip down the fuel line. He also says in his kit about a fuel return set up that has something like 20Hp increase I would really love to look at all that is involved in that too.

Some have done this. I don't recommend it. Stock tank and stock plumbing is SAFE for diesel. Modifying for VO, particularly heated pick-up is problematic.

The GF systems 'kit' is a JOKE. Major POS, don't waste your money wrecking your truck. Same goes for GC, V-power and ALL the others - except Vegistroke.

Frybrid Vegetable Oil Fuel Systems has a custom alum Excursion VO tank that mounts under the truck - 40ish gallons. They also have a PSD kit that uses V3 module, frybrid computer/controller, heated fuel pick-up, HIH, FPHE, etc.

airfooter: do you have a link for a picture of their tank? Mine has a ~30 gal capacity, and he used almost every inch of space under the truck. I am curious how they get an extra 10gal out of theirs thanks

That the system I was talking about and yeah it’s a 38 gallon tank can’t see where it goes under my excursion either, lol but that’s the kit I was really considering. Anyone done the frybrid system? I would love a peek at the Fuel return setup that I had read about. wondering how involved it is to make a reality.

greasy

I have seen the drawing for it. It has 2 big notches in the top for the crossmembers. MAYBE you can get them to sell 'just the tank'???

Also, I think the PSD kit still listed on the website is the 'old' Frybrid kit, w/switching valves and regulated return, etc. The 'new' kit uses V3 module and no 3way valves...

Looks like I'll be getting an Ex next week! VO conversion to follow in a few weeks. I'll photo and document the install, trying to relay the 'lessons learned' from 65k miles on the DIY conversion in my truck.
