Good source for metal buckets?

Putting together my filtering system... my restaurant has agreed to pour their waste oil into whatever contraption I design while it's still HOT... making my filtering life MUCH easier.

Does anyone know of (or can think of) a good source for METAL 5 gallon buckets? I can't use plastic because of the high temps. (Or, even if I could, the restaurant won't want to risk it... making the debate a moot point here).

The only think I can think of that comes in metal 5 gallon buckets is stain/varnish. Any other ideas?

As always, thanks in advance.

Re: Good source for metal buckets?

Might want to check with some local paint contractors. Thinner and paint in large quantities usually come in metal buckets.

Re: Good source for metal buckets?

I've bought roofing tar and asphalt sealant for driveways in 5 gal metal buckets, but I don't know where you'd get 'em clean and MT.

Have you tried McMaster-Carr or Grainger? Both seem to have a pretty broad range of 'stuff'....

Re: Good source for metal buckets?

Try some local body shops. They get paint thinner in metal buckets.

Re: Good source for metal buckets?

Check you local movie theaters. Coconut Oil for pop corn comes in 5 gal metal cans with a lid that has 'tabs' on the side. You push them down to seal the lid.

Re: Good source for metal buckets?

Paint buckets are a real pain to clean.

What I've found works great are laquer thinner buckets. But I think someone else already suggested this.

Metal buckets are getting harder and harder to find. I have had a much easier time finding steel 55 gallon drums than steel buckets.

Maybe this will work for you. Just leave drums for you suppliers to fill.

I assume you pump the oil through the filters? If so it's probably just about as easy to pump from a drum as from a bucket? Maybe not in cold weather but in warmer climate maybe.

Good luck,

Wayne
