Great price on peanut oil.

found a local source (at least temporally) with 5 gallon blocks of peanut oil for $6.25.

Can I just pour this in my tank at fill up time (2-3 gallons of diesel, 5-10 gallons of peanut), then another 7-8 gallons of diesel to mix it) and then just drive off?

Here in the seattle area it gets around mid thirties at night right now. I do have 2 tanks and could use the smaller as a pure dino if needed.

What is the 'shelf life' of the peanut oil if kept closed/

thanx

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

You can do just as you discribed.I would try small amounts maybe with cold weather say 75% diesel and 25% peanut oil.

Don't know what the shelf life is though.

I have run 50% 50% WVO < who knows what kind of oil it is.comes from a fryer.

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

Mike,

I am interested in the conditions in which you use 50/50 WVO/diesel.
Do you use any additional heat in your fuel delivery system?
What are the ambient conditions when you run 50/50?
What vehicle are you running this in?
How long have you been doing this?

Thanks,
Shannon

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

I have basically the same question. I can still get Soy Oil at Costco cheaper than I can buy dino or B20 here in Michigan. I try to run B20 as often as possible, but occasionally have to fill with straight dino.

36 gallon tank - how much SVO do you think I am safe in adding to either B20 or straight Dino. Michigan winter can get into single digits - right now we're still in 30's and 40's.

In summer I wouldn't hesitate to dump a 35lb cube in when filling my tank - am I still safe in winter?

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

I think you would be safe with 5 gallons and 50% mix in the summer. Might try making some different ratios in mason jars and stick them in the freezer and see what the highest ratio dosent gel up.

If you keep the oil sealed in a cool dark place it should last a long time

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

Let me get this straight, You can mix 5 gals or so peanut oil with regular diesel with no mods to the truck?

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

I've done it in my Excursion. Back in August I was running 50/50 mix; the only mod I had done to the truck was installed a Racor Fuel/water seperator.

In these temperatures where I'm at currently I wouldn't hesitate putting in 5 gallons of veggie in my 44 gal tank.

No xtra mods to run it during the summer.50/50 and go.In the winter I haven't put in no more than say 7-8 gallons in my 30 gallon tank.

Most important thing is to filter filter filter. I use a 5 micron from the farm supply store here in town.I have been running it in my truck below.

I have cut back though cause I don't want to gell up and actually don't have time to go out to the tank which is 50 miles away at my FIL's House.I have about 20,000 miles on it.

I am getting BIGGER injectors next week so I will have the company I bought them from tell me if they find anything wrong with the cores.

Re: Great price on peanut oil.

Guys I got a little ahead of myself. There were three cubes at $6.25 each. Left over from last year. Yes I took all three.

This years batch is running $22 per cube. Anybody want it at $4.40 a gallon? Not me either. May wait until after the h-days and try to catch it being "sold off".

Oh well at least I got some.

Wayne
