Re: Heated Fuel Filter Bowl on 7.3L?
I don't know about the 2001's but my 2003 7.3 does have a heated bowl. Tell you how to find out. The next time you change the fuel filter, look down in the bottom of the bowl. If you see a little circular heating element runing around the perimeter of the bowl bottom, you have one! Seriously, it looks a little like the burner on an electric stove only there is a single loop, not multiple loops. You can even see where the wire connects to it.
I'm sure that it would have to help gelling at the fuel filter, which is the most likely place to gel. Between the heater and the friction generated by pumping the fuel, it would probably add a little heat to the tank too. I'm in Central NC, not too far from you climate-wise. Experienced folks here tell me not to go below about 25-30% petro diesel in the cold months. Remember, depending on your feed stock for biodiesel, it can gel even at relatively high temperatures (50 degrees F. plus). Cutting it with petro diesel will keep that from happening.
