Re: Heated Raycor?

You should probably use a relay of some kind to turn on and off with the ignition. That will keep all the power wires under the hood and only a switch wire will have to go to the cab. You should be able to find a decent 12v relay at Radio Shack. If you don't know how to wire up a relay once you get one, feel free to ask again on here or PM me and I can help you. It is pretty simple.

Re: Heated Raycor?

Thanks,

I have a handfull of old & new lawn tractor 12 volt starter relays. Very similar to the GP relay on the PSD. Would somthing like those work?

Re: Heated Raycor?

I would venture to say a starter solenoid won't work. The reason is that they are built to remain engaged while the battery is loaded... say around 9-10Volts. If you have them on while the engine is running, (13.6V) the coil will burn out. This was my experience when I tried to run AUX lights with a Ford starter relay at a 12 Hours SCCA race that ended at midnight... around 8 O'clock, 30 minutes after the aux lights were turned on, they went out... the solenoid was the reason. It might be possible to wire a resistor in series with the coil to prevent this. I would recommend a 30A SPDT relay. They are kinda high from Radio Shack. You can also try your local car stereo shop, as they use them quite a bit, and buy them for $2 or so. Last time I priced one from Radio Shack, it was $7. I bought them bulk for $.99. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...01949&rd=1

Re: Heated Raycor?

my $.02

I have the same filter and I haven't hooked mine up either, but I will. However, I would hesitate to hook that thing up to come on with the egnition. That heater is a 200w unit. That's like running two off road fog lights all the time, and I think it will wear a little on the alternator and batteries. I wish it wasn't so powerful. I think 200w is overkill for what we need.

Anyway, I plan to run a relay with the remote trigger wire hooked up to the Veggie switch. That way it only comes on when the veggie is on.

I also plan on installing an overide switch that would keep the unit from heating during the warm season.
