Re: HIH vs HOH

Thanks for all the feedback. I ordered all the parts today and I am going to start with a HOH wrapped with self adhesive exterior pipe insulation I found at HomeDepot.

I have come up with a series of relays that will switch over automatically when I reach temp and the pump is up to pressure, and switch back to diesel if I loose pressure due to filter clog or empty WVO tank. I am using a series of LED's to indicate when the system is in warm-up mode, operating or cut out. I will post my design and any notes when I finish.

More to come soon… in a new thread

Re: HIH vs HOH

Well , I guess I need to work on my research skills ! I see that the rear tank IS available as a direct replacement , so can I buy a heated pickup for it "off the shelf " or do I need to have the length custom made ? Sorry to hijack your thread va_redneck and I'm very interested in hearing more about your switching and wiring . Are you using something like a clamp on aquastat ? I had considered temp gauges at various points ( I like to kick it "old school" ) and I'm wondering if anyone could suggest gauges and locations ?

Re: HIH vs HOH

Repower – no issue with hijacking the thread. I think it is a good topic and you may want to start a new thread on automatic vs manual cutover to VO.

I had planned on an elaborate gauge setup but overran my budget. I was planning on building my own in tank heater but the parts were going to run me $80 so I opted to bite the bullet and get a hotfox.

As for the gauges I was planning on putting them in the same place as my cswitch over sensors. Water temp at the return point to get the lowest possible reading and the VO oil temp right before one of the fuel rail and a fuel pressure gauge in front of the other fuel rail.

Re: HIH vs HOH

Thanks for the good will ! I'm hoping to use check valves and seperate pumps to omit the crossover .

I like the gauge configuration and thought that the tank pickup might be good too .Can you suggest a source for the gauges that you would use ?

Re: HIH vs HOH

in the past I have used Summit Racing and JC Whitney with good luck. There are several option for various gage pod options. I have used pillar pods in the past but they really obstruct your vision. next time I am going to opt for a underdash or overhead pod.
