Some time ago I ran across a post that had a design/plans for building a cone bottom to a 55gal drum. Is there someone out there that has the plans? If no luck I will try some cardboard cutouts and see if that idea would work what do you think?

If you are good at math, here you go.
Now understand, I dno not agree with most of the info on this site, but these plans seem worth looking at.

Checked out that pre made 55-gal funnel/cone at that feeder site its galvinized which is not a good idea to use if you ask me. Would be perfect if not.
You can strip off galvanizing by soaking the metal object in muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) which is cheap at the hardware store paint section. For a funnel/cone I imagine you'd just brush the acid on and later wash it off into a tub (don't hose it off onto your lawn or anything). I remove galvanizing from items I"m going to weld by soaking them in a bucket of the stuff- if you keep the bucket sealed the acid stays 'good' and usable for a long time.

I guess its not so bad to get the galvanization off, will keep your plans in mind for removing. Its probably worth the time savings to just buy the galv funnel and acid wash rather than to make a funnel. By the way I just ordered your book.
Hey rodman68 or anyone else, I have a pattern for the cone that goes on a standard 55 gallon drum. Its easy to make and easy to roll.
We made 2 cones with this pattern for our stainless steel reactors. The tanks are tall and skinny and are the same diameter as a drum.
Just lay the pattern down on the steel, chalk it out, and cut.
If the metal is thin...you likely could roll it by hand OR if its kinda thick...then have someone with a set of metal rolls roll it for you.
Overall its a pretty easy project. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the hardest, I'd place it at a -2-.
If you need the pattern...just let me know and I can duplicate my pattern and drop it in the mail for you.
- Chad
PS: If anyone knows anyone who might be interested in a 400 gallon cone bottom HDPE tank...let me know. I have a few of them I need to get rid of. (The manufacturer had a minimum order.) Would be great as a large wash tank for biodiesel, a storage tank, settling tank or if you do it right a reactor. 814-450-5771
chadadams-be interested in your cone bottom also-thanks
