yes it is heated but notorious for going bad most have disconnected thier heating element cause it comes lose from where it is soldered(spelling )and shorts out against the housing case dieing and no start situations also the filter housing has a tendecy to rot out and leak

Please don't make blanket statements. There are over 2 million PSD's on the road and I will bet you $100 cash that 99% still have the filter heater connected and working. For just 1% to be disconnected would have to be 20,000 engines. I find that real hard to believe, non the less over 50%.

And I have NEVER in the 5 years I have been on this site heard of a fuel filter housing "rotting through"

Whoa there big fella. I wouldn't jump down someone's throat for offering advice when you obviously haven't been victum to what he is protecting you from.

He is correct about the heating element. It may, and most likely will cause problems in the future, if it hasn't already. Your right, not EVERY PSD will need this, but unpluging it now may (may I said) help you in the future. I had falure of my heating element. But I didn't know it until I HAD MY HOUSING ROT THROUGH.

It rotted through, poped a pin hole, sprayed 45psi worth of diesel onto the valve cover and turbo, causing one heck of a mess and I didn't even know it till smoke started comming through the bottom of the dash and shifter boot. I damn near caught my truck on fire.

So it happens. Simmer-down-now. He's trying to help and I take offense to your back lashing.

Re: How hot does the non-veg gas tank get?

I get to return the favor Travis, let's try to get an answer to the original question. I have asked this before but nobody had temps. Does anyone have any actual numbers? It might not matter once it gets to injection anyway, but how do we really know without someone have temp readings anywhere along the fuel path? I have a guess it is very hot during operation. The return lines and tank(depending on fuel quantity) get noticably warmer after running for a while. Someone at least have a report(s) on average temp of fuel in head rails before injection versus speed? I know someone here or at another site had a temp gun that they used during some testing. I'll try to get my mechanic to get readings for me and post back. I just haven't got my temp sender installed yet. Does anyone have one installed and want to share position, heating method, and readings?
