So there's three or more threads running here about WMO, and I swear I saw the answer to my question in one of them, but "SEARCH" isn't pulling it up, so here goes:
In starting to collect WMO for use in my '00 'Scursion, do I need to worry about synthetics? Most of my potential sources use exclusively synthetic or synth blend in their vehicles. Assuming I filter, filter, filter after I settle it, it should all burn, right? Seems I saw something about mineral-based oils plasticizing & causing delam in the fuel tanks and/or injector coking problems...is this a concern?
My plan is to start with a pair of 55 gal drums, one w/a water heater element, and settle/separate in one, then pump thru a filter system to the other, collecting WMO & WATF from friends & a local Trans shop, intending to mix 50/50 w/#2 pump diesel and/or BD

I have been running WVO in roughly 50/50 ratios since summer. All I did was run it through a .5 Micron sock and then drop it in the tank. Now that its cold I've cut the ratio back to about 25% WVO but she still runs fine. If I know the truck isn't going to get shut off for a long time I will run over 70% WVO just gotta make sure to put diesel in before she cools off!!! What kind of mileage are you guys getting out of your fuel filters? Cuz when I would put motor oil through the truck it would always get really black, really fast!

I use waste motor oil, trans fluid and veggie oil when ever I get it. The most I run is a 50/50 mix and have no problems. I've run kerosene by mistake once too but didn't have any problems.
My buddy has been running a 50/50 mix of waste trans fluid and diesel with every fill up in his early 2003 (7.3L) for well over a year without any trouble. And he tows a lot too. He does get a little smoke but it's nothing too serious.
So i mixed up a batch of 50/50 WMO....now ive noticed that my truck lacks power like it use to have when i was on straight #2. and also my in tank pump wines and little more after i drive it for awhile....is this just something i have to live with? i filtered it through a 10 micron filter then a 2 micron filter and it seemed pretty thin. i had a older non used inline fuel pump and it pushed it fairly well so i didnt worry about filtering the oil and diesel together. anyhting i shld worry about?

I don't know that a 6.0 can handle it to begin with.
I have heard the 6.0 fuel system sucks and its a mistake to try to run WMO in them. The fact your pump is whining is because its too thick for it to pump, just my opinion though.
I have run synthetic in my truck and never noticed any difference between the others. The Diesel Power magazine has a artical about running waste trans fluid as a fuel and on the first page it has a guy puring synthetic trans fluid in his truck. I thought this was funny and all the "no synthetic" guys out there would piss there pants. I have run it with no problems but use at your risk. I have also run Kero but less BTUs so your milage goes south a little and the cost is higher than ULSD. I use offroad and WMO/***/any petro product thats thin enough to pump at atleast 50/50 mix and I have run as high as 90/10 but my truck smokes a little at idle. 50/50 to 75/25 runs well for me

well i just went on a thousand mile trip from louisiana to arkansas and back. I was pulling a 44ft. gooseneck with three jeeps on it. I ran 50/50 mix the whole time. It seemed to loose a little power but im pretty sure i know why. I bought the truck used and it looks like the fuel filter hadnt been changed in god knows how long. I pulled the filters while in arkansas and the bottom filter was comming apart and it was pretty crappy looking. And the upper filter was slightly dirty, with a clean bowl and looked fine. So after the filter change my mileage went up about 1.5 and it idles smoother and runs 10 times better! So far ive logged a little over 3,300 miles on 50/50 mix of WMO/***. And my fuel pump doesnt wine anymore. i guess the previous owner didn't care to much about the bottom filter or something.....it wasnt that bad to change!

Did over 40k on my old IDI before putting new nozzles & IP but they had over 115k when I started so they were allready pretty worn. I always prefilter to 2 microns before adding it to my tank, 70% summer 50% winter.

I've been out of the loop for a while, so bear with me on this. Where is the lower filter at? I thought there was just the on on top of the motor. I think my persistent CEL is because of the fuel filter, but I'm not sure. It runs fine with no loss of power that I can tell.

The 7.3 has no lower filter, just the one on top of the motor. The 6.0 has an upper and lower.

finally got my 30 and 2 micron filters installed. ran my first batch of wmo today...80wmo 20diesel. wow... I love it. at first the fuel pump hated it...it was about 35 degrees when i first had the truck running on it. then the truck started starving for fuel and idled crazy.--i think i might add a second pump in the engine bay right before the IP, and prolly heat wraps for each filter.
once the fuel warmed just a little it ran great!
You def notice more power!!!
and it is fun to stuff the guy thats tailgating you with a buncha soot..
and at idle...you forget your driving an old idi, there is NO vibration anymore.
Just talked to the aamco guys, they should be givin me free oil. is there any downside to running watf compared to wmo? does the atf have the increased btu's for a hint more power like the wmo? I was told it works like a great injector cleaner...

ATF is thinner that engine oil, so it actually is better as an alternate diesel fuel. I have heard of people running 100% on ATF. And yes, it is high detergent, so it cleans moving parts effectively.
