I handle these chemicals on a daily basis at work in HUGE quantities. First and foremost read the MSDS, understand what you are dealing with, get the proper PPE and wear it, then from there on out use common sense (assuming you have read and understand the various recipes available).

Only problem is, common sense ain't that common.

Thats ok, the production part will then be a "thinning of the herd" process. Should bring the regional IQ up a few points for every person who manages to DARWIN themselves while making Bio-D.
Cause you have to be a real darwin candidate to screw yourself up making small batch recipes.

You are very right, there may very well be a whole new addition to the Darwin Awards after this stuff catches on. You cant save people from themselves

This process is not for the timid or worry-some. It does take common sense and steps to insure safety. If you have small kids around that play all over the yard or go into the garage to get their bikes out, keep the supplies out of sight. I have 2 boys ages 9 and almost 12. i am very fortunate that they show an interest in BD and how to make it, but they understand that you dont mess with the ingredients. When I was making my first batch, they came outside to see me and before I could see them, they were running across the street to get away from the smell. That alone made them respect it. When it was in the reaction phase, they loved to see it seperate and change. I plan on doing 10 gallons at a time when I get settled in to the new house. I use VP anol and it is $30/5 gallons. If I can get it cheaper that would be great. Lets just be careful in our making, polite in conversation, and eager to learn this process. it is not for everyone, but it is for me and I will continue to make BD.

Your methanol price is pretty high. Im buying the same stuff (VP) for 3.40/g. Per gallon. Just at a race shop where the owner came and gave me some wierd looks...(Like gee, he sure looks clean for a druggie...)
My 15g coned bottom tank just came, and Ill be getting oil tomorrow. Now I just need to learn how to do titrations, and then I should be set..................

Although I did do some off roading out there just before they build the coarse........Nearly got stuck.

Where did you get yours from? So far, I only found one at this URL
Only that one that I found is MDPE, which I am not sure of. I know that HDPE is highly recommand for Bio-D stuff.
HDPE is High-Density Polyethylene. Clearly MDPE is Medium-Density Ployethylene. Only that HDPE is the standard meaning of recycle symbol with number 2. Notice all plastic bottles that you drink your favorite drink from, they are PETE with recycle symbol with number 1.

Now that I look, it doesnt say anything about its rating (Other than it is polyurethane)

Clearly, it stated "Tanks are manufactured from medium density polyethylene with U.V. inhibitors and designed for containment of liquids of up to 1.7 specific gravity."
Good question about specific gravity... what is bio-diesel's specific gravity in general from home-brewing?

I have seen text which specifies the acceptable range but I am unable to locate at this time. I remember that .88 is optimum with .92 being the upper limit. Below is a paragrapn from the Journey to Forever website.
"Measure specific gravity (SG) by weighing a specific volume of the fuel. Remember that volume is also sensitive to temperature. A liter should weigh about 880 gm at 15.5 deg C."
