In the area that i live in everybody is using waste oil from restaurants to power their trucks. Usually i can get anywhere from 15 to 20 gal per week from a local restaurant, (by the way if you are ever in Griffin Georgia you should eat at Griffith's Drive-In they have great food and very friendly people)anyways recently i have only been getting about 7- 10gallons so today a guy is out back cleaning off some buckets or something and i asked of they had been dumping the grease less often he told me no, that they had been dumping them every week just the same. so im thinking that someone has asked the owner if they could remove the waste oil with it being so popular around here, and of course he would have told them that he already had someone removing it for the same purpose, so they think hey i can just sneak up and take this guys grease and leave a little so he doesn't catch on... what i want to know is if anyone else has had this problem? and does anyone have any ideas for maybe putting a lock on my barrel or another way to prevent the theft of my waste oil

It happens.. Especially if people start paying the restaurants for their waste oil. What we do is place a 100 micron screen over the 55 gallon barrel from US Plastics (look up EZ strainer) The screen rests on the top of the barrel. Then place a barrel lid ring around the screen and lock the lid ring securely. It won't stop someone from poking a hole through the barrel screen but we haven't run into that problem.
We had people start taking the containers from the local VFW. Now we take them friday night instead of saturday morning
