Re: Interesting reading, Soy-Diesel vs Bio-Diesel

Sounds to me like they are saying that "soy-diesel" is straight veggie oil mixed with diesel. Not good.

Re: Interesting reading, Soy-Diesel vs Bio-Diesel

There are a lot of nay-sayers about running pure veggie oil mixed with #2. They do make a small little disclaimer tho: [ QUOTE ]
The glycerin in the soybean oil acts like sugar in the fuel tank and will eventually ruin fuel injectors without special management.

[/ QUOTE ]

Special management such as maybe heated fuel lines and oil temperature around 160? Hmmm?

No long term studies of engines running on veggie oil? THats BS too. How many YEARS has the veggiecar site been running on veggie? I have never seen a oil fouled injector tip posted yet!

SWAMPS will even do a free inspection of your injectors if they have lots of miles on veggie oil, because he is just as interested in the effects as us!

Re: Interesting reading, Soy-Diesel vs Bio-Diesel

Back in the late '80's soy diesel was pretty popular on San Francisco bay..there was even a fuel pump at a marina in Alemeda where you could buy it.

Around that same time a small boat powered by a pair of Yanmar diesel outboards circumnavigated the world running on soy diesel

Re: Interesting reading, Soy-Diesel vs Bio-Diesel

Second your post. Veg, engine oil, HO, ATF, etc has been run mixed since before I was born. It's been a couple decades since I first heard of putting veg oil in a diesel pu for the farmers in north east. Same diff with gas engines and mixing with shine, drip, etc. The engine doesn't care what you think should or should not happen. It will do what it does regardless. It depends on quality, quantity, and the process. Running veg & used motor oil mixes is old news; it just doesn't seem that way with limited, uninterested, or new mass data resources (Internet).
