JET A in a Powerstroke?

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I am curious as to how many of you have real world experience with running JET A in your Powerstroke. I may have access to 'some' unused jet fuel, and need to know the pitfalls.
I know it is a very 'dry' fuel, but don't know the sulfur content. Is there a lubrication issue?
Can you run it straight?
Or you you need an additive?
Add some 2 stroke oil.
Add some regular motor oil?
Add a jar of peanut butter???
Any tuning differences?
EGT worries?

Thanks for any input.

Bill.

No problems running Jet A in a 7.3 MrBill1. You do need to put some kind of lube with it. I used used veggie that I had filtered. If I had a lot of Jet A, I would put in 5 gallons of veggie and fill it the rest of the way with Jet A. If not, I would put in more veggie.

My brother had a Jetta TDI and he just mixed it 50/50 with diesel.

You will notice that the Jet fuel stinks pretty bad so the vegitable oil does help the smell some. Other than the smell I couldn't tell any preformance differences.

I put about 400 gallons of Jet A and 300 or so of veggie through in the past with no problems and I have about 165K on the clock.

Cheers.

I've run a lot of JetA through both the 7.3 and the VW TDI, and have a lot of friends that have as well with zero problems. As stated by the previous poster, veggie would work well as a lubricity additive. I've worked with guys who have used SAE30, Marvel, transmission fluid, 5606, you name it.
My choice is 2-stroke injector oil (the type used on later model outboards and jet skis). I rarely ran either on pure JetA- the mix was usually 50/50 with diesel or a little more in favor of the Jet. I'd use veggie or biodiesel in a hearbeat if I had it available to me.
The smell has never bothered me; I'm quite used to it having been around it for over 30 years......
The stuff runs incredibly clean and odor free in kerosene heaters as well....

Thanks to all that responded.
I have been a little under the weather this past week , so I didn't spend much time on the computer.
But I really do appreciate the feedback.

Bill.

I used literally tons of it in my old duramax and my current 03 Excursion. Some times ran staright do to nothing to mix with. With the duramax I saw a slight increase in EGT but well within normal.I started using stanadyne lubricity treatment with it all the time.
Just a note, be careful about who you tell that u run it.Jealousy is a *****, and makes individuals do real stoopid things.

Where are you guys getting this stuff? I hear about folks running it all the time, but I find it hard to believe that airports are just giving it away to whoever asks...are you guys aviation mechanics?
