Looped fuel system?

I'm currently returning the veggie back to the veggie tank, same as when I'm on diesel. After hearing about the problems of air in our PSD fuel systems (see also cackle, pre-pump mods) I wanted to return all excess fuel back to the tank.

But, if the fuel system has no leaks between the tank and the engine, should trapped air be any issue anyway?

For those who loop the returned WVO back to the fuel lines, do you have any problems? Do you loop back before the fuel filter or back to a point before the stock fuel pump?

Thanks,

Todd

Re: Looped fuel system?

Todd,

My 6 port valve is located about 1' before the fuel pump. When I'm running diesel it sends the return back to the tank.

When I switch to veggie it sends the return back to pre-pump.

I currently see no issues, no leaks, nor strain on my pump. Greasel does the same, though some may have different opinions but... anyhow when taking measurements using my laser thermometer I noticed about a 20 degrees rise in temperature. I suppose when I switch back to diesel I'm getting a little bit of veggie back in the tank, but I don't drive around town to run on veggie, if I switch over I'm usually going a distance so I don't switch back and forth that often to accumalate that much veggie back in my diesel tank.

On another note, what did you come up with on the issue of your truck not starting, was it your fuel pump or your glow plugs?

Re: Looped fuel system?

I talked with a diesel mechanic and Powerstroke driver. He said the symptoms are definitely not glowplug related. Sounds like I have a 6 port Pollak leaking. A pair of Greasecar 3-port solenoid valves are on order.

In the meantime, I just plug in at night. Starts fine but runs rough unless I let it idle a while. Even then I have to take it easy.

I decided to hold off on doing my flow tests until I'm ready to do the solenoid replacement.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll do a looped veggie return.

Todd
