Low-Emission Diesel?

Hi all....

I was wondering if there are any available "low-emission diesel" or "emission-control diesel" available in the USA or EU countries.

I don't really consider ULSD as a low emission fuel because it does not take care of NOx emissions. With the tough mandates on emissions today, these "low-emission diesel" must be able to cut NOx and PM(soot) and all other GHGs simultaneously WITHOUT requiring any retrofits or changing any engine parts.

As for biodiesel, it increases NOx, so this does not really count.

Does anyone know of such fuel or is already using it? I am actually interested to know if any truck companies( with fleet size of 100 trucks and above) would like to try out such a fuel if it was available in the USA or EU countries. This can save huge retrofitting costs, by just changing to the new fuel.

Cheers!

Im not 100% sure but I think vehicles running on the highway with more than 15PPM of sulfur could be fined by their state. Most gas stations have stickers on the pumps that say for 2007 and newer vehicles it is illegal to use LSD.

I don't know about fuel, but I was over at a friends house last night who is a mechanic at a Kenworth garage. He told me the new trucks with the new emissions stuff on them are scary clean. He told me you can take a truck with 60k on it and wipe your finger inside the exhaust pipe and have NO soot on your finger. About the only thing you see is a little rust scale. Strange to me.

That is right... clean diesel technologies nowadays are THAT good! The only problem is the cost to retrofit it with the latest filters, etc. It should burn a 10K-20K hole in most pockets.

One solution is refuelling, that is to change the fuel to an emission-control diesel. Does anyone here know of any emission-control diesel or low-emission diesel that is available in the USA or EU countries?
