Been getting a bit colder here in Mi... sure is fun playing with HEAVY oil, LOL
Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you from Southeastern Michigan could point me at a source for drums of Methanol? My source is in Grand Rapids and it's just too far to go and they charge almost $100 for delivery plus all the insurance and such.. (a big rip really).
Also, I may have a problem with too much WVO for the winter months and may need to "share" some with a nearby user. Gonna depend on my methanol supply I guess. If anyone nearby is in need let me know and I'll keep in touch with you on how we could work this out and my timeline, etc.
I wish you all a very Happy Holiday and the best to all on this great forum!!

I'm in East Lansing, and can get methanol from Americhem in Mason, only about 10 miles south of me. They will sell it in either 30 or 55 gal drums.

I live in Flint and get mine from an auto parts store near Montrose, which is about 20 miles north west of Flint. He carries it for the local racers. Paid $127 for 55 gal 4 months ago. Price may have gone up by now.

I live in Yale, Mi in the middle of the Thumb Area about an hour east of Flint.
My daughter is a student at MSU so I get up that way quite often. Maybe when I'm up at the school I could stop by and chat sometime and share notes?
Do they have any pre-purchase requirments? Will they do a dockside or ground level load of a pickup truck? I get up to Mason in the Summertime for some of the horse shows. So I at least know where it is LOL.
Would you know how much they are getting either per gal or ??
I was buying from Brenntag in Grand Rapids but I got caught in the Sales Rep deal and was charged too much per gal/drum... the lady I dealt with at Brentag sort of told me there was nothing she could do because their quote to me had come from this rep AND THEN when they delivered it to our place, we have a dock, it ended up costing me like $100 more. They had alluded that it was no big deal they had trucks going our way all the time so no biggie, then they nailed me for insurance, road use, fed exise, and some other junk... needless to say I'm not happy and should have refused the drum but the bill was already in the mail. So, lesson learned.
Sure wish I had a heated garage right now LOL
Thanks for the reply and Merry Christmas to you,

Thanks for the reply. Like I mentioned in a post to kleenax I have to go up to Lansing quite a bit so I pass right by you. Any chance you could PM me and let me know the name of that supplier? I'd like to give them a call if I could because all I have left is about 5 gal and I've got way too much WVO and getting more all the time LOL. Sheesh, when I first started brewing BIO-Diesel I was crying to get oil now I can't seem to keep up even in what they call their slow period (winter). Oh well, as they say be carefull what you wish for.
Maybe on one of my trips past Flint we could get together for a coffee or something and chat Bio?
I looked at your Webshots presence, nice truck and great photos, good job. I've just ordered VCG's and wiring and GP's for mine. Kinda nursing it and hoping to get by till they get here next week.
Look forward to your reply and Merry Christmas to you and yours,
Talk to you soon,

I had to buy a drum today. Same place I bought 6 mths ago. Price was 2.39, now its 3.67. That makes my price/gal spike from .70/gal to .94/gal electricity included. OK I'm done... Still saving 1.60/gal, and I enjoy brewing the stuff.
I think if I remember right, that most commercial Methanol is made form natural gas. If thats the case, natural gas around here just took about a 20% price hike.

yea, I went to Yahoo maps and looked up where Yale was after I read your post.
I dont' think that they have any other "hidden" costs. I used to buy from them quite a bit in another occupation, and they were always great to deal with.
Just PM'd ya my cell #. Feel free to give me a call when you get up this way; we'll swap stories over a coffee or something.
Happy Holidays,
Ray

Wow!
Randy, that's the best price for Methanol that I've ever seen in Michigan! Course, it's surely a lot higher now, but I was just in Montrose the other day, and didn't even think to check there. I helped to restore that old Train Depot there in Montrose; small world!
I live just off the Bath, MI I-69 exit in case you ever get over this way. Give me a holler and we can have a coffee.
Cheers,
Ray K.

Thanks for the replys...
