Methanol vs o-rings?

I remmeber looking into this some time ago and people mentioned the methanol will eat the injector o-rings on the older engines. Mine is a 89 with a 7.3L non turbo. I am trying to decide which method of bio fuel to start using. I canot relocate these warnings. Is anyone using a similiar truck with methanol in their fuel, and how is it working? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Methanol vs o-rings?

Its not methanol that easts the o-rings, its Bio-Diesel!

Bio-D is a solvent and will eat anything that has natural rubber in it.

If yuo have a vehicle built before 1996, the odds are you have real rubber and will need to convert to nitrile o-rings in order to run bio-D.

I believe concentrations below B-20 are considered safe, but higher ratios will cause problems.

Re: Methanol vs o-rings?

Anyone know whereI can get them? Would the o-rings out of a 1996 or newer injector fit mine. I am running a 1989 7.3L non turbo. Thanks for the help.

Re: Methanol vs o-rings?

Wow. So if Bio-Diesel is rubber corrosive, then how about WVO? Are there any concerns there? And I am talking about 100% SVO. Is this corrosive as well?

Re: Methanol vs o-rings?

No, 100% WVO is not corrosive. It is only biodiesel that is corrosive.
