I talked with one of my restaurants about this. They gave me the price list for new oils from Sysco, a large restaurant/institutional supplier here in the Northeast and even the cheapest oils worked about to around $5.00 per gallon. This was the bottom rung hydrogenated stuff that the chef told me he would never use. Two years ago it was relatively economical to buy new oil but the hike in fuel/food prices has made it cost prohibitive. I'm looking into getting a 300 gallon home heating oil tank to put in my garage if I can locate a renderer who will sell me yellow grease for less than the price of diesel. Even that is getting tough with the price being so high however.

Well if new oil is about the same price as diesel, you should be able to find used oil for less than diesel. We're going to sell waste oil for about half the price of diesel.

The price of yellow grease (what rendering companies call processed waste oil) works out to about $3.07 a gallon. Not exactly cheap, but definitely better than $4.70 a gallon which is what I'm paying here in New Jersey. However, free is always best
