New to This Site

Hello boys and girls. So I'm new to this site and kinda new to the 2006 F-250 Diesel to be honest. I bought mine in June this year, and now I have some extra money and was trying to find the best way to spend it. I was originally going to just put some money towards paying off my truck, but after much thought and studying, I've decided to go with Biodiesel. So i'm thinking I'm going to buy my own Biodiesel processing system along with the biokleen drywashing system, but I really wanted some folks' personal experiences with this in their trucks. I can read about it all day long on different sites, but it's always nice to hear from real people's mouths their experiences. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Thanks, I read the FAQs, helped a bit too. Thanks Rob for the warm welcome. So I was looking into an at home BioDiesel kit and it makes ~40gal each time. Do I have to make more and store it? Or can I just make enough each time I need it? The process says it takes just about 24hrs total, so if I make it when I get real low, and just fill it up the next day, do I need to make more to store it? I just see a lot of talk about storing it in the right conditions, so I don't know if it would be easier to just make what I need and not need to store anymore. And about the non-hydro oils... Do you just go up and ask the restaurants you are going to if they use hydro or non-hyro oil? Will they know what I'm talking about? And do they normally charge you or are they happy they you take it off their hands? I know that's a lot of stuff, but I'm new and tryin to get a feel for this whole thing. Thanks again guys.

First off welcome, secondly don't mess with your 06 diesel especially if your still making payments on it. I don't mean to sound like a mean person but bio is one heck of a learning curve and if you don't do it right you could be buying a new engine, work shop (or where ever your planing on making it) and or you could end up seriously injured or dead. The best thing for you to do is sit back and allot there are several communities out on the net that can help you. I personally started to build a processor but after sitting down and trying to allocate the chemicals and calculating the cost to build a processor I found it to be not feasible. The primary problem your going to run into here in the state of Virginia is a chemical supplier that is close to you that wont require you to buy large quantity of material and will be willing to supply you (even though you don't look like a terrorist). You best bet would be investing into a older 7.3L diesel truck and running it on bio SVO or what ever else you might think of due to the lower repair costs. If you insist upon building a processor the first thing I will tell you from my research is DO NOT under any circumstances use a processor with a plastic tank. If you have the money to invest invest into a BioPro processor since it doesn't require much in the way of knowing what your doing. The other advantage of a BioPro processor is your getting something that is quality built here in America and you do not half to hunt down an old hot water heater and convert it. Again please do not take me the wrong way but a 06 diesel that your still making payments on is not something you want to be putting homemade anything into or modifying in any way period.

This company is the first one to my knowledge to have made the Biopro processor available to the public. Utah Biodiesel Supply - Biodiesel Homebrewing Supplies, Equipment, Processors and Information

Wink

Thank you guys very much! I wasn't planning on making the processor at home, I was going to buy one already built, but yeah, I didn't even think about how difficult it would be to get the chemicals. Honestly, I could afford to buy a new engine if need be, but who really wants to do that, so thank you for the financial lookout . As far as the plastic tanks? The kits I've seen online have plastic tanks, and a lot of folks on here have said not to use metal tanks b/c they cause polymerization? To use the plastic tanks. Anyway, thanks for the help!

Never heard of that, from my knowledge steel is perfectly fine to use although stainless (which is what BioPro uses) is far superior to that.
