Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

This is a book that most of us start with http://www.localb100.com/book.html

Your water heater needs to be an electric model (not gas), I'd suggest a 50 gallon heater, but a 40 gallon will also do fine.

good luck,

Hugh

I got a new 80 gallon electric water heater on ebay for $50.00 awhile back but some times you can find good used ones for free.

Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

If you do it right you can build one for under $400.00 or even allot less. First things first, buy the book and it will show you how to do it for less. All together I have about $300.00 in my setup and I can make 80 gallons a week.

Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

Ok this might be a stupid question but does everyone that makes there own biodiesel have to go to restaurants and get the old oil from them or do they buy oil from somewhere.

Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

Hey Kingsoade,

Please fill in your personal profile, so we know where you are located and what you are driving.

Check out www.craigslist.org in your area. Click on the nearest town to you, then use the search fuction in the upper left hand and choose sale/wanted in the drop down, type in electric water heater, then search. Only go after the electric water heaters that are lightly used. Old ones are free, newer ones are 10-50% of new prices. If you don't see any, then post your own ad in the wanted section. 50 gallon is a great size to get, but 40 gallon will work too. Those should be $100 or less.

I recently bought a one year old 80 gallon Kenmore for $150.

Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

My kit cost less than 150 to build. I used a 55 gallon drum turned upside down with the heater screwed into a reducer and put into the large bung and pick pipe into the 1 inch bung and then cut any size hole you want in the top to pour oil in. I personaly welded in a 3 inch bung so I could seal it once I add the meth. Real cheap(I mean thrifty) but hey it works great). oh yeah cut a 1 inch hole in the side at the top for recirculating the mix. Hope it helps

Re: Ok so im ready to start making my own Bio

What I found out is these companies that sell these new tankless water heaters will contract with a plumber to install them. The plumber will take the old water heater out and install this new tankless system. Find and contact these plumbers. Lots of times they will give the old water heaters away. The one here in Dallas just sits the old ones out back and someone (Wholesaler probably) will come pick them up. The guy told me to just get here first and you can have your pick.
