PSD Pistons

I'm still on the fence deciding whether to convert to WVO for my PSD. My biggest concern is the theory that WVO can coke injectors and piston rings. From what I've seen this is theory only, and I've not heard of someone frying their motor due to WVO coking. Still, I have several questions: Are the pistons in a 1997 F250 7.3L cupped? If so how deep or shallow is the cup? Where can I find this information? Is the air/fuel mixture somehow swirled into the piston cup at intake on a 1997 PSD? I've read that deeply cupped pistons and swirling air/fuel mixture would reduce the chance (thoery) of coking. I don't mind taking risks, I just want to be informed before I do.

Thanks in advance
Groundpounder

Re: PSD Pistons

"swirl" is a gas motor concept. There is no "air/fuel" mixture on a diesel.

Diesels take as much air as you can shove into the cylinder (either via vaccuum or boost), compress it to a high ratio and THEN inject the fuel. The fuel will ignite from the high temperature the compressed air reaches.

The fear is that if you dont keep your combustion temps above 300 degrees (as read by the pyro, pre-turbo) then you risk wet-stacking, ring stick, and washdown. This is true with regular diesel fuel, and is possibly even MORE TRUE with WVO.

WVO requires a higher temp to burn cleanly and without risk of damage. Not to mention the head design on the PSD pretty much pre-heats the fuel before it even reaches the injector tip.

To date, no one has presented a set of bad injectors or a bad engine due to WVO.
