Question ?

I own a stock Duramax. Can I run any other fuels without making any mods? If so, what? Would it be cheaper to run an alternative fuel or what? Can somebody fill a me in. I am novice to the ways of Diesel so please excuse my ignorance. Late.

Re: Question ?

You can run it on bio diesel without mods. If you make your own biodiesel it is quite a bit cheaper (if you are getting the oil to make it for free). However it will take a bunch of work to gather the oil and to process the biodiesel, so if you count your labour as worth much then the biodiesel becomes more expensive.

Re: Question ?

Biodiesel can be run in your truck w/ no mods at any percentage (B2-B100) provided the ambient temp is high enough. Cold weather is best about B-20, warmer, higher. If you look at your owner's manual, they recomend something like no more than 5% bio. This is because they cannot guarentee the fuel, and if you get a small batch of bad fuel (usually homemade), it won't do as much warrenty damage.

At this time Bio is more expensive than petro diesel. It is however, better for your truck, better for the environement, and does not fund foreign oil companies or terrorists. Until we can get an economy of scale going on, it will be a little higher than petro diesel, because oil companies own the governments. When American farmers can start producing a feed stock (algea or rapeseed) that has a high enough oil content in it, we can take a huge chunk of money away from big oil.
