Question about 2 stroke oil

I have been doing a little research on adding 2 stroke oil as a way to lubricate the fuel and was wondering what people are using for oil. Is marine 2 stroke or snowmobile 2 stroke or genereal purpose 2 stroke better or does it really matter?

I've been running Wal-Mart ash less two stroke oil for the last year with a ratio of 1oz to 1 gallon of fuel. I have noticed that the engine is a little quieter but I'm not sure of the mpg that some have said has happened. As long as it is ash less you should be good to go. Also the oil analysis has come back fine.

I've read TC-W3 ashless 2-cycle oil is what you want. The applications (marine vs. snowmobile vs. bike vs. chainsaw) shouldn't matter.
