Red oak to filter

I am experimenting with red oak chips/shavings to filter my bio. I had a batch that after the shake test, the water was a bit cloudy so I ran 1/2 gal thru some oak and retested and the water was clear. The next day I ran another 1/2 gal thru the same oak chips and what came out was a nasty greenish brown color. Did the shake test and the water was clear. Does anyone have any experience with filtering with oak chips? BTY, I dry wash with purolite.

There are extensive wood filtering topics at:

biodiesel.infopop.cc

There are dedicated forums there on Making Biodiesel and Biodiesel Quality. Just do a search and you should find what you are looking for.

I have been having good success using dried pine shavings from a local pallet manufacturer.
