Simple question on fuel filter?

A mech. friend told me that he would not bother using bio, since it clogs the fuel filter quicker and that it will gel faster (we are in Colorado) any opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance....

Bio cleans out your fuel system within about 1000 miles. Most after that filter change never experience a plugged filter from that reason. The only way the bio itself could clog it is if there is dirt with it.

And yes it will gel faster but you can always cut it 50/50 with kerosene to drastically lower the plug point

As well as blending it with ULSD #2 or winterized ULSD #1 (not the same as kerosene). Kerosene is similar to ULSD #1 BUT has way more sulphur than ULSD #1. Actually sulphur in fuel is good for lubricity but the eco-freaks have taken it out of diesel from 500ppm to 15ppm.

I would just cut it with kerosene in the winter. Last winter in the northeast we had enough trouble trying to keep "winterized" ULSD #2 from gelling. I've never had to use that much Power Service to keep my truck alive during the winter. We had gelled up trucks and machines everywhere. Lots of fun when the snowcats start gelling up on the mountain...

Re: Simple question on fuel filter?

Sulphur is not a lubrication improver in diesel, it's a contaminant to fuel quality.

The environmental aspect is just a small part of it's removal from diesel #2.

Thanks for the correction

Sulfur is not a lubricant, however the process used to reduce the Sulfur also reduces the fuel's lubricating properties. Lubricity is a measure of the fuel's ability to lubricate and protect the various parts of the engine's fuel injection system from wear. The processing required to reduce sulfur to 15 ppm also removes naturally-occurring lubricity agents in diesel fuel. To manage this change ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials) adopted the lubricity specification defined in ASTM D975 for all diesel fuels and this standard went into effect January 1, 2005
