I have been running it(atf) for a while(many times 100%) in my old 86 and now my 95. Recently noticed excessive smoke (not black)at idle and around town on light throttle. Once on the highway it goes away. Added some diesel and still has smoke at idle/light throttle.Any thoughts? Going on a family vacation to a national park and don't think they would like the smoke there to much.

It's a powerstroke. I'm thinking it's the synthetic fluid. I am going to run straight #2 in the rear tank and atf in the front. I'll run on the atf on the highway where it doesn't smoke then run on # 2 in the national park and around town if it starts to smoke to bad. Made up a quick and easy pump/filter assy.Ordered this pump. Tuthill Diesel Fuel Transfer Pump with Hoses — 12 Volt, 10 GPM, Model# FR1614 | DC Powered Pumps | Northern Tool + Equipment
Then got an inline filter housing assy (use a 2 or 3 micron spin on filter) and attached it inline before pump. I even wired it to plug into my 12v wire in my hitch plug. Works great.
Been running wmo at 90-95% for awhile. recently got a 55 gallon drum of used atf, prepared it the same as my wmo and ran it 90-95%. Truck ran fine, normal power etc.. Wmo added no noticeable smoke. Now with the atf is smokes alot. If I have a friend follow me somewhere they complain and think something is wrong. Its dark gray/black smoke. Heavier throttle=more smoke. Light throttle no smoke. Steady throttle, also no smoke. Still have 30 gallons atf left. Im gonna burn it anyway I'll just keep my foot out of it. Smoke em if you got em, right?
