Stock Fuel Filter for '97 PSD

I have a question about the replacement filter you all are using.
I think that the Wix brand of fuel filter lasts longer than the purolator brand I have also used.
I am running a 2 micron Racor Aquabloc filter element coming off the veggie tank and then going to the stock one.

I was wondering what kind of filter you are having good luck with and are you running SVO, bio or both?
Thanks,
Flea

Re: Stock Fuel Filter for '97 PSD

I no longer use the engine filters (Racor or others) because my veg oil ran through my veg filter then through the engine filter. After I purged there was always a restriction once I switched to rear fuel. This was due to the veg oil coating the engine filter. The rear fuel never passed as freely as before the oil hit it. To solve this problem I added a Racor water separator filter dedicated to rear fuel so each fuel will only pass through its own separate filter. I kept my fuel bowl intact, but now have an aluminum billet block where the engine filter was. It sits on the standpipe. It displaces 95% of the volume of the fuel bowl to cut my purge time down to a mile. All sensors still work. But to answer your question...all the engine filters regardless of brand don't stand up to WVO very well...IMO. Since this new Racor is only rated up to B20, that's what I'll be using from now on for startup and shutdown fuel.

Re: Stock Fuel Filter for '97 PSD

So how much did the diesel filter cost you and what part number is it.
What is the cost for the B20 filter element?

Thanks,
Fletch

Re: Stock Fuel Filter for '97 PSD

This is what Racor water separator I got for my rear tank. It came with an R60T.

This is where I found the cheapest filters on the internet, but only for a case of 6. I use the R90T 10 micron filters. They fit both filter housings (veggie and rear) so that's all I ever order.

I spoke to tech support at the Racor manufacturing plant in Modesto,Ca about using B100 with it. He said that the gasket material will handle up to B20, but since the gasket can be lubed with dino oil and it really sees minimal contact with the fuel, I'd probably be fine but I'm sticking to B20 regardless.
