Can I Just order the 99+ kit does it Include two electric pumps??
Or must I buy a Bean's type fuel system First??
The Frybrid OBS system uses (2 or 3) 3-way valves and is very similar to all of their 'conventional kits'. The Frybrid 99+ system IS the DFA V3 module plus some Frybrid stuff - including the controller.
I think the DFA system for OBS trucks ditches the mechanical (stock) fuel pump and adds an electric pump for diesel - as well as converts fuel system to 'deadheaded' similar to the later-model PSD's. Because of the extra pump and plumbing, the DFA kit for OBS is more $$ than the late-model 7.3's. This DFA kit will be 'all inclusive' (down to the last nut/bolt).
All of that said, I think the DFA system for OBS trucks is a superior design for VO conversion with the simplest operation and the parts are all OE quality. The best thing about this design is redundant fuel systems - you can nearly always drive home 'on the other fuel' if a pump fails, etc. BUT.... Frybrid claims the OE fuel pump on OBS truck 'will pump gravel' and it is not very expensive to replace. Their OBS system will also be all inclusive, but less expensive since (3) 3-way valves are ALOT less $$ than (1) electric fuel pump.
A note about the 'controllers': The DFA controller is fully automatic - with the system turned on, you get in and drive and when temps are attained, it automatically switches to VO. When ya get where yer going, turn off the ignition and the truck continues to run and go thru purge sequence as you walk away. The Fyrbrid controller also auto-switches to VO, but purge requires you press a momentary switch and wait until the indicator lites tell you its OK to shut down (mine is set to 20secs). This can be done while driving and we usually hit the button at the end of our (long) driveway. If you forget, there is an alarm that reminds you to purge when key is turned off (simply re-start and hit the button). Then there's my F350 which is 100% manual! I have never fogot to purge, but MANY times I drove several miles (or more) on DIESEL when I coulda been burning VO...
If the 'Beans system' you are talking about is the deadhead elimination kit, it is not necessary on OBS trucks because they are not deadheaded stock. FWIW, the 'flow thru' or non-deadheaded conversion is WAAAAAAY overated. The hard-core OBS guys were all frustrated when Ford changed the design on the late-model 7.3's and developed 'kits' to 'make'em like the old days'. IMHO, this 'mod' is as ridiculous as the zoodad mod. Beware of testimony from people who spent their hard-earned money on such systems - they have to justify their investment.

Ok, well I have to say I do like the "heated in tank pickup" from frybrid
And I'm not too concerned about controllers, I'm pretty hands on when it comes to driving, And no one else really gets behind the wheel..
few more questions and hopfully I can get ordering!
am I going to be able to just bolt on the 99+ kit from Fry brid? Doesn't it consist of Two electric pumps??
From what I understand the stock fuel system on the OBS may pump gravel, But it sure won't pump it fast enough for 4-500 HP?
so I think I'm shooting for TWO electric fuel pumps? As if I converted over to the SD style pump first..? is that something I should do now or is there a SVO specific fuel pump I should instead replace it with?
Can you explain the "deadhead" I keep getting Jerry and the Dead in my head..
Being in Hawaii Maybe Frybrids fancy heated pickup isnt needed? how is DFA's kit heated..??

Here's what I'd do - especially if ya wanna make HP. Replace the engine-driven fuel pump with electric, internally-regulated fuel pump. Replumb factory fuel system to deadheaded including relocating diesel filter under cab. You will use the front ports on heads to feed diesel (thru a checkvalve). The VO system will have it own internally-regulated pump and fuel filter (this is incorporated into the V3 module) and will feed the rear fuel ports in heads. I think this is what ya get from DFA for an OBS truck - no need to modify anything 'in advance' - they give you EVERYTHING you need!
As for heat, the Frybrid in-tank HE is unbeatable. Besides NOT heating the whole tank, it get the fuel coming out of the tank HOT very fast. This is not only good for the engine (hotter VO faster), it makes fuel filters flow better and ultimately last longer. My opinion is the hotter the VO, the less problems you have. Not only that, with enough heat - you can burn bacon grease in Alaska! Or just any 'ole high fats, hydrogenated oil you'd normally find. Some studies have shown VO has increasingly better atomization up to 300*F. In a nutshell, coolant is not capable of 'hurting' the VO. I'm comfortable with coolant-temp VO, about 200*F in my trucks with a 203* t-stat. This temp is given another bump 'in the heads'. I have Frybrid in-tank, TIH up to V3, then TIH up to a 16 plate FPHE and out to heads. I see 160-170* VO before my VO filter. Many, including DFA would argue there is no reason for the amount of heat I have, but its hard to argue it can hurt anything and I don't know many people who see the kind of VO filter milage I do. 150k miles of success makes me biased too...
The DFA tanks have an aluminum coil across the bottom of an (unbaffled) RDS aux. fuel tank. They also use HOH and no final HE. Seems to work good for most people.
I got over trying to 'save money' on my system components early on. If 'overkill' means I continue to have the unwavering success I've enjoyed, I'm all about it. I have never had a VO-related problem in all of those miles...
One more thing - I use inexpensive Mercedes aux coolant pumps on my PSD's. Even with all the heat I have, I saw very low VO temps in cold weather when there was no load on engine - ie, sitting in traffic or just low-speed driving around town. The 'problem' is two-fold. One , these engines are very cold-natured. Diesel's in general are very thermally efficient, so at idle and low-load most of the heat goes out exhaust. Two, at low RPM's the water pump is not moving alot of coolant. Low flow = less heat transfer to the VO.
Be sure to let us know what ya end up with! mmmmkay?

Airfooter,
Want to thank you again for all the info..
I've talked to the guys at DFA and will be ordering ASAP.. Im really excited, We picked up 10 gallons of oil, and are looking in to Centrifuges, and other filtering options, Hopefully when I Get the kit here and installed I'll have plenty of fuel waiting to be used!
One last question..
Will this DFA kit "delete" the fuel bowl under the hood? I have a leak there now.. And I figure if thats all going to be removed, NoNeed to go ahead and fix it now..
Mahalos again..
-P
