I have been running wvo for 4000 miles and have been using two asian restaurants for my oil. I filter straight into my wvo tank using the GFS "one shot system" a 2 micron racor filter. It has a large clear water separator at the bottom of the filter so I can see the quality of the oil while I am pumping. The restaurant I was at today uses alot of sauces when they fry their food. I have a screen on top of the collection barrel and it catches most of the food particles but obviously any sauce in with wvo goes through. I am normally very good about not taking from the bottom of the tank, except for today. I had my kids with me (2 and 3 years old) and was busy with them when I was pumping. I was checking the oil every couple of minutes and when I came back I noticed the clear water separator was very very dark brown. The oil is normally golden brown and I can see though it. I have seen the oil as the owner pours it in and it is very clean but has suspended particles of food and sauce. So seeing this dark oil I immediately stop pumping and clean up. 5 miles down the road my factory water in fuel light comes on and 1 minute later I am losing power. I switch back to diesel and everything is ok. So I assume I have a clogged on board filter and that the dark stuff was most likely teriyaki sauce. I am a little confused though. If my prefilter did not get clogged and pumped it through fine why would it immediately clog my on board filter? My on board filter has about 1000 miles on it now and the first one laste me about 3500 miles. I am going to change out my filter tommorow and drain my fuel bowl and while I am at it check out my stock fuel filter. I am not sure how much of that dark stuff got in there. I assume that since the stuff was near the bottom of the collection barrel it is now in the bottom of my tank near the pick up hence the fast reaction with my filter. Should I drain my tank? Will addding D2 or B100 help if I don't drain my tank. Any help would be appreciated.

IIWY I'd drain AND clean the tank. That's the only way to eliminate the water/teriyaki sauce. Diluting it with #2 or bioD will not solve your problem. There is obviously a down side to filtering on the fly and this is it. The tried and true method of settling for weeks and de-watering is still a better method IMO.

I cannot imagine pulling out of a something and putting it right into your tank, you are asking for disaster, there is NO filter system in the world excepting maybe a higher end centrifuge that will remove dissolved water from vegetable oil, repeat NO filter anywhere, that is a recipe for disaster.

Thanks for all of your replies. I know I was walking a thin line with pumping into my tank and this little incident has ended that practice. Today I drained about 4 gallons of teriyaki water from my fuel tank. What an experience that was. I swapped out my stock fuel filter and drained the bowl many, many times. I will say that the aquablock racor filter did do the trick and plugged up like it is made to do before very serious damage could have occured. What is still strange is my prefilter before going into the truck is an aquablock element and allowed all 4 gallons in without any problem. Very strange. Thanks for all of your help.
